72 Gallon Bowfront Build

I freed up my 72 gallon bowfront for a FOWLR build. I moved all my stock and plants to a 55.

I don't have all my plans laid out yet. Probably a peaceful community. Definitely O. Clownfish for my daughter. Everything else is up in the air as of yet.

Today I painted the back glass. Four coats of Rustoleum satin black. Don't mind the sand in it yet. I need to take it outside and rinse it out yet.

Also got my 700 gph glass-holes overflow kit and a 3/4" loc-line return kit today.

Here's my alternative to eggcrate. I couldn't find eggcrate at Menards. And nobody seemed to know what I was looking for. I found this in our warehouse. Hopefully it will work fine. It's not quite as tight as eggcrate. It is a rubber product though. Will there be any issues with it?

Looking for bulb recommendations if I go with one of these units or any other recommendations for under $125. I would like to keep some anemone too if possible to host the clowns.

I'd still like to repaint my stand since there are quite a few chips in it.

I locally picked up two powerheads, 20 gallon long for my sump, and some rock.

Also ordered 40lbs of sand and 50 pounds of rock from reefrocks.net.

Last order of the day was for a CadLights TIA-1150 2nd Generation Conic skimmer

I'm looking for some sump advice.

Here's my basic drawing. I am waiting to see what the proper depth for my skimmer is yet. I can't seem to find it on the internet so I'm waiting for Cadlights sales to get back to me. For temporary sake, I used 9" for skimmer depth.

My main question I can't seem to find a solid answer on is how deep to make the return pump chamber. I read about making sure you have 24-48 hours of depth for evaporation. Is 7" too deep? Too shallow? Can I fab a top to reduce evaporation that covers the right 3/4 of the sump? At this time I don't plan to do a fuge.

Here's a newer drawing. I got the skimmer specs and it's operational depth is 8". So I'm thinking of making the chamber 10" and make a 2" riser. 1" between bubble trap baffles and 8" deep return section. That leaves me about 8 gallons of overflow return if the power goes out. Should I make the return section baffle deeper? I only want to do this once. The piece of acrylic is $40 and I'd rather not waste redoing.

I got my base rock from reefrocks.net. Ordered 50 pounds and got 55 so props to Steve. The sand is backordered. I need to figure out how to epoxy these together. I can't seem to find a decent way to stack them. I tried about a dozen different structures and don't like any of them. The two darker rocks are from a local reefer and the rest from Steve.

Trying to source some live rock locally to seed this rock. Not having much luck. I am tight on funds. If I can't find live rock to seed with, do I just dose with ammonia like in a freshwater tank and cycle it that way?

Looking good! Nice Skimmer! How much did that cost?

I think $225 shipped from their website. Thought I'd try something different from the normal. It was between that and the Eshopps one.

Starting my RODI salt mix today in hopes of getting sand Monday or Tuesday delivered. I'm going to be moving the power strip away from above the sump. Probably to the right side wall. Space is a premium in these bowfront stands!

Currently looking for a close to matching stand to start building an ATO.

Is that a bubble Magus?

Cleaned and glued all my piping today. I plan to fill tomorrow and leak test. My sand should be here Tuesday or Wednesday for a salt fill. then I will be ordering 10 pounds of LR rubble from PA to help seed the tank. Sorry the glass is dirty from moving around.

Well, I haven't updated this thread much. I just got a cheap Odyssea 4 bulb light for now. Added 10 pounds of LR Rubble from PA. The cycle is moving. It's eating 4ppm of ammonia in 24 hours but not getting rid of trites yet.

Current Setup:
Glass-holes 700gph overflow kit with Enkamat to quiet it down
Glass-holes 3/4" return kit
75 pounds of base rock
10 pounds of LR Rubble from Premium Aquatics
Koralia 4
Koralia 3
Odyssea T5HO 4 bulb light
20 Gallon Long sump
1 1/2" return into 2" reverse durso
Quiet One 3000 return pump (Split with a return to the first chamber to get a little more flow in the sump)
CadLights TIA 1150 G2 Skimmer
IO Salt

Setting up my water storage. It's complete now, not in the picture.

different light combinations. I modified the light so that it alternated light colors instead of having each color next to each other.
