SeaJay -- Not much new with the tank... We had absolutely every intention of drilling today, but my garage was 96* in the shade and w/ fans blowing, so I went and bought a 11,000btu portable room AC unit that's on wheels and hooked it up in there. The temp is now down to 83* and falling, so if all gowes well we'll drill all day tomorrow.

What I personally love about the new VFR is that it is such a unique looking bike that doesn't fit any of the traditional profiles. It would make an awesome "bridge" between my 1 month old SV650 and 4-day old 1600-Nomad. ;)

Tek -- Mine was totaled on Friday and I bought a shiny new one on Sunday morning then took possession of it Tuesday after flying 1-way into GreenBay Wisconsin to pick it up and ride it home. Focus on the oportunity to buy a new bike and get to make yours all over again... I've already sold off a ton of the aftermarket parts that I had on mine, and we haven't even turned it ion to the insurance company yet.

dhenley -- Standard, though with 2 separate CL pumps, a crossover, and a self-cleaning reversal system (don't ask, it's too hard to try to explain).

Single-sided swingarms are always super-sexy. Shaft drive and a single-sided swingarm is not only super-cool, but very functional on what promises to be a long-range sportbike.

Seeing the photos on Honda.com, she needs a custom pipe (how much weight will THAT save? Have you seen the size of that stupid pipe?) and a fenderectomy (good GOD, look at that fender!)

...Then a custom all-red paint job (the bike should be available in VFR800 lipstick red or XX black - that's it) with a deep tinted screen...

Then maybe I wouldn't have such a problem with the looks. Maybe it's just the candy red and silver thing that I have such a problem with... Well, that and the bizarre headlight (jeez, I was just getting used to the XX's and 'Busa's headlights).

Why can't Yamaha come out with a Busa-beater? I can just see a 1400cc R1 that's been stretched out like a GT bike should be... Super-smooth the bike and give it high speed aeros and handling like GT bikes are (and a twin counterbalanced inline four like the XX's motor) and the "R14" could set the sportbike world on it's butt again - the way it did when they invented the R1.

If it were up to me and I worked for Yammie, I'd make a 1400cc to 1800cc inline four that's counterbalanced. She'd be mated to an 8-speed transmission and have a 15,000 rpm redline and be a sub-nine second bike in the quarter, right out of the box. She should have a solo cowl, all white "Indeglo" style analog gauges, and a wheelbase about 3" longer than an R1, but with a steering head about the same as an R1.

She should be electronically limited to 175 mph, but have a switch, button, or wire that will allow the owner to defeat the 175 mph speed limit easily.

Leave the headlights side-by-side, and just get creative with lexan and acrylic to create the aerodynamics of the 'Busa and XX. Smooth all angles, edges, and marker lights under lexan.

Give her a single-sided swingarm and shaft drive like the new VFR1200, and keep the bike under 425-450 lbs, and the entire motorcycling world would be set on it's ear. :)

Ah, the fantasies... :D

Yammie, if you're listening, make the bike only available in Yamaha racing blue or solid black - no graphics other than one or two "tuning fork" insignias. And give her twin exhaust pipes for that incredible sound... Glass-packed, but with a polished stainless sleeve... Think Staintune meets Two Brothers...

Hey, I just got finished watching videos on Honda.com about the new VFR1200.

Here's my initial impressions:

1. I can't believe that they created an automatic transmission for the thing. Yeah, I know, they're supposed to be smoother and all of that - but clearly, sportbike owners aren't going to want them, and that's all there is to it. Why did Honda spend all of this time and effort working on something that clearly, sportbike owners aren't going to want?

2. Honda now makes an F-15 watercraft... It's got a turbocharged inline four cylinder engine that's all aluminum, smooth as silk, and a whopping 1470cc's. It makes 200 horsepower, out of the box. Why can't they put one of those in a bike?

I love Hondas - but it seems that since making the first fuel-injected XX, they completely missed the mark. It's like they have no idea any more what people want.

i can imagine, but is if for clearing any thing in the intake pipe, and for clearing the intake screens in the tank? sounds like a sweet idea! (i have a good idea on one way of doing that.

Yeah I am lucky to not be hurt worst. I am dissapointed my 65G peninsula kitchen tank is on hold now for at least 6 weeks.

I did discuss with the other half this morning to either get a new bike or a sports car. I would miss the bike more, but a whole lot safer.

Yeah, and let's face it... There's two kinds of motorcyclists - those that will crash, and those that have already crashed. There is no such thing as a motorcyclist that will never have a catastrophe.

That said, sports cars - no matter how exotic or fast or beautiful - will never hold the excitement and enjoyment of a $10k motorcycle... That's all there is to it. :)

For me, motorcycles did a wonderful job of curing me forever of my fascination with exotic cars... A great thing, considering what they cost. When you can throw a leg over a machine capable of 0-60 in 1.6 seconds and a top speed of over 200 mph... Nothing else will seem to be "performance" again. The term "sports car" seems a joke. :)

Buy a truck and go skydiving or scuba diving. Or buy a motorcycle and ride in full leathers, helmet, etc. on the weekends, knowing that catastrophe is just around the corner, no matter what you do.

Don't bother with a sports car unless you've never ridden a hyperbike and simply don't know any better. :) Given that you do, I can't imagine that you'd be satisfied with a sports car.

Scuba diving and skydiving are both comparatively a lot safer. Buy a truck so you can haul gear and go enjoy yourself. :)

This is got to be one of my favorite threads.
That SV is sexy! My 04 SV650 is still bone stock and my 91 VFR750 is non-running and sitting in the garage. I gotta get on the ball.

That sexy SV just got a PowerCommander-V installed yesterday afternoon, and this morning I had my laptop connected to it, sitting on the seat, uploading a Map designed to go with the M4 slip-on, K&N air filter and de-snorkeled airbox. I'm hoping to be able to finally break the 130 barrier. ;)

Tek: For me the beauty of having bikes is that they are relatively cheap when compared to a car, especially a sports car...

Me..? I can go on a nice long leisurely road trip with the cruiser or I can run sprints all day on the SV. The bottom line is no matter which bike I'm on or what "mode" I'm in, I'm on a bike. I really want a 3rd bike for riding around town that is neither too heavy (Nomad) or too uncomfortable and sporty (SV650). To be honest, that's really what I dig about the new VFR, because it's a very unique and eye catching bike that as I mentioned before kinda bridges the gap between the 2 that I already have. Hell, and old Honda Nighthawk would be ideal for this.

Needing to add to your stroke book again..? :wavehand:

Yep. :)

I've been thinking about the above fantasies all day... A CBR1500XX... Or an R14 (or R15)...

Heck, if Honda would just take an 1800cc Gold Wing motor, supe it up and put in in a long wheelbase sportbike, they'd have set the motorcycling world on it's ear.

I still can't believe they gave the new VFR1200 an automatic transmission. :( Even if you don't elect to have it, it's still going to have the reputation...

The what?

Dude, my XX shifted into fourth at that speed, with still two gears to go.

First gear hit redline at 83 mph... Making the bike officially capable of breaking all speed limits in all States in any gear.

...That was the secret of a 9.3 second quarter mile... That she didn't need to be shifted until you were halfway down the track. :)

...Then I rode her home, since she was 100% legal with mirrors, lights, turn signals, and even a passenger seat. :) She was also a great touring mount - I put more than 100,000 miles on her before crashing her and letting the insurance company have their way with her. I figured I'd get something newer... Faster... Better.

...And here it is, eight years later. No bike. :) The ZX14 has come out, and the 'Busa got a styling redesign that made it not so ***-ugly. It also got a few more CC's, but for all intents and purposes, it's still the same bike.

Honda's created the VFR1200, but it's like they focused on all the wrong things. When is someone going to make a new GT bike?

Good luck on the 130 mph barrier. :D I found that if you lift your butt off the seat a little, you can smooth the airflow over your back a little and ink out another 3 or 4 mph...

SeaJay -- The SV is aV-twin track bike that has pretty much all low-end torque. It rockets through the gears and hits a plateau whereas the 4's obviously keep climbing.

I've been told and have read that the SV is the quickest of the production bikes and that it will eat the Gixxers off the line. Again however, it drops off as quickly as it gets there.

-Tim

Oh, don't get me wrong... I love SV's... Yep, they're awesome track bikes, and if you ever end up taking it to the Dragon, my bet is that there's not a whole lot of bikes that are going to give you a run for the money. :) You'd be through all 318 curves before most bigger bikes were thinking about getting started. :)

I've just got this thing for top speed... Open road... Distance over time. It's just what I'm into. :)

Tucson to Phoenix in 38 minutes... A tick over 96 miles. That was my weekend fun. :) No car could touch that with a 96 mile pole. :)

*sigh* I miss my bikes. :( Especially my XX. Her name was Xxodus. Solid black with some custom HONDA racing graphics on her belly. Whipplecharger, fuel injection and ignition mapping software, full exhaust, a ton of trick cosmetics, custom suspension, and a lot of work lightening her up. She ran consistent 9.3's in the quarter, and had a top speed of 207 mph (timed, not indicated). She pushed 214 horsepower on av-gas one year in Daytona, but then I fueled her up at the local gas station and drove her home. She once held a world speed record - for 12 minutes. :D

*sigh* It's so pretty outside... Wish I still had her. I wonder what she's up to now. :(

I just thought that one of the manufacturers would have made something better by now... Better, smoother, faster, quicker... Something. I just haven't seen anything that quite gets to me like she did. :)

Yep, every time I glanced down and around... :D

This beast is so large that on a couple of occassions I actually forgot that my wife was on the back because she now has so much room that she isn't ever touching or bumping into me as before. :)

wow nice bike

I will be lying to myself if I do not ride again. Shopping or repair time once the insurance gets back to me and this pesky collar heals.
