do the inside of those pendants look like the elites? i was looking VIA Internet, and they look super similar.

do they project light similar as well? do you have any experience with the new pendants or are you experimenting with them on this magnificent build?

Nice build, Tim.
The more I look at this:

The more I think you are definitely going to need to put your light rack on a sliding rail.
Taking that rig down every time you need to get in there (especially the first few months) will be horrible!

Ya think..? ;)

It's not possible though, due to a sizable portion of the tank & light rack being in the inset that was once a closet.

Holy smokes, Tim... Sorry to hear about your loss. Glad to see that everyone's okay, save for a sore wrist that will certainly heal fine.

That's the part of riding that I don't miss. :)

'Course you've replaced that pretty quickly with the part that I DO miss - buying a new bike. :D

Nice ride. :)

SeaJay,

Cathy and I are driving 4.5 hours to St.Louis as soon as she gets out of work this afternoon, then catching very cheap ($200 /person) 1-way flights first thing in the morning from St.Louis to Green Bay, where the dealer will be picking us up at the airport around noon... Our luggage mostly consists of our helmets and leathers. You know the rest of the story! ;)

-Tim

Ah, yes... I know the story well. :D Done it several times myself, as a matter of fact. It's an awesome story! :D

Have a ball. :D Stay safe. :)

After 1 day in the air and 3 on the road, we're finally back home... I'm thoroughly exhausted, but I'm lovin my new bike which is now 300 miles overdue for it's first service! :D

-Tim

Awesome. How was it? See anything super cool?
Yep, every time I glanced down and around... :D

This beast is so large that on a couple of occassions I actually forgot that my wife was on the back because she now has so much room that she isn't ever touching or bumping into me as before. :)

Man, what a beast... How much does she weigh? How's she handle? You said she's a Kawie? I see a V-twin and a signature Harley air cleaner...

Good God, man, she's a very pretty beast... :)

772 dry.

How's she handle?
I'm still learning her. I did do a couple of very tight maneuvers between heavy traffic with inches to spare during the last leg of the ride home yesterday, and she was as agile as I needed her to be.

2008 Kawi Vulcan 1600-Nomad - It was a dealer new bike that we purchased for $7000 less than what we would have paid locally for a 2010 model. The '08 models were the last of the side opening doors, which I like so much.

Good God, man, she's a very pretty beast... :)
Not as "pretty" as that new VFR1200 that I was looking at again today! ;)

I just wrecked in a turn yesterday on the R1. Must of hit some gravel since the back broke grip.

I have a broken collar bone and bruises everwhere. The bike is missing the area around the gauges from the pictures, but for all i know everything back looks good. Even the rims are straight as this was all in the dirt. It will probably be totaled out, but I will do what I can to repair it. My first bike and only for the past 4 years

One other thing i wanted to ask.
i know you are drilling for closed loop, but i was wondering if it will be a standard closed loop, or if you plan to use Oceanmotions or some thing of that sort?

what are your opinions on both? (standard and wave closed loops) experience with them as well.

Tek: Oh man! Sorry to hear it... Bruises and a broken collar bone suck, but I'm glad to hear that otherwise you're okay. Crashes always end in a new bike or a bike that's better than it ever was before, so it's good to hear that everything will work out - although you're probably having a tough time with that at the moment. A patch of dirt the same color as the road (and therefore invisible) was my "last straw" after watching three good friends die on bikes, and the reason why I've taken a leave of absence at the moment with bikes... Don't let that happen to you. :)

I bought a BMW Z3 (red, convertible sports car) to replace my worked-over and insanely fast XX... Honestly, I had a good time with it for about two months, being able to go places in shorts and flip-flops and drive safely anywhere and in any weather (with a passenger, air conditioning and a couple of overnight bags). After that, things got really boring - but if it hadn't been for my Z, I'd have never gotten back into scuba diving, and I'd never have ended up a commercial diver. Things happen for a reason. :)

I sold my Z for a Ford F150 SuperCrew so that I could carry more scuba gear. Frankly, I wouldn't trade this truck for anything - in fact, now that she's paid off and considering something new (I've had her for more than five years), I can't find anything that I like as much. The only thing that comes close are the new V-10 Harley Davidson Edition F250's, but it's tough to justify the $60k price tag when I can use that money to buy another boat, side scan electronics, or a new bike for the weekends. :)

Anyway, things happen for a reason. Don't let the crash bum you out. :)

Tim: That's lighter than I expected. My bet is that she's super-smooth 'cause of it. The roomy passenger seat is amazing - maybe I could even get Kym to come out on a bike like that. :)

You know I'm not a cruiser guy - but she's a pretty machine, for sure. :)

The VFR1200 - you know, other than my 'Busa and a couple of FJ1100/FJ1200's, the only street bikes I've ever owned were XX's and VFRs - I've had 11 of them in total. I am a complete shoe-in for the new VFR1200 - it's like they combined the best aspects of the VFR and the XX, added shaft drive (of which I'm a big fan after renting a BMW K1200RS for a month) and a few other things... So I should totally love the bike.

I just can't seem to get over it's looks - yuck!

Historically, I've always taken my VFRs and XXs and "sported them up" a good bit - smoothing lines, tucking lights, cutting off fenders, and lightening the bike up a good bit. I also like to add horsepower and fully adjustable suspension... So you'd think I'd be up this time for an unlimited-class sportbike like the CBR thou or Gixxer thou... But I tend to find myself cutting my rides short when I do that. There's something about a 1,000 mile weekend on 100 mph + sweepers that make a hopped-up and lightened VFR or XX "the" machine to have. I'd feel differently if I was planning on spending an hour on the track, but on the streets (and especially on long trips), my favorite mount will always be the large-bore GT bike, equipped with an MP3 player, GPS, and a throttle lock. :)

I really want to fall in love with the VFR1200 - she seems the pinnacle of the very first Interceptor that I had in the late '80's... But that look... Ugh.

That said, I said exactly the same thing about my first XX and then again with my first 'Busa, too... But quickly changed my tune when I saw how smooth and airflow the odd-looking bodywork created. Today, many sportbikes have actually adopted some of the aeros, and therefore styling, of those two bikes.

The VFR1200, though? Jeez, man... Why can't they just make every bike look like a Ducati or MV Agusta?

...Speaking of the MV Agusta... Since she's currently holding the top speed honors in the world of stock motorcycles, she's a serious consideration. The price tag, though - about the same as a new Ford F250 Harley Davidson Edition with a V10 engine. :D Yow!

Predictably, I also like the Kawie ZX14 quite a bit - I wouldn't mind owning one of those. I'm kinda a diehard Honda fan, though...

Maybe I should go ride some bikes and see what's going on for 2010...

How's the aquarium coming? Anything new?
