75 gallon blew up.. project 180RR

no one? really? what do i need to do change the thread to 1000 gallon tank build to get people here

Are you referring to dinoflagellates? It is thought that they thrive when there are sufficient silicates in your source water as they require this element to grow their tests (shells/skeletons). If you are using an RO/DI to clean your water you can consider this a short term issue, just part of the several waves of different kinds of nuisance algae you'll experience as part of breaking in a new tank. You will probably find that it lifts out in sheets and can be vacuumed up. It usually stops growing within a week or two and then disappears.

I don't know why you would think GAC would cause dinoflgellates to grow. I have not heard of snails being hurt by it, but I suppose there may be some types that are bad for them. I had heard that fish wouldn't touch dinoflagellates but I have seen yellow tangs munching on it sometimes. I can't see dinoflagellates harming corals unless you leave them undisturbed to smother the corals.

Perhaps you are confusing the type of dinoflagellates that grow in our aquariums with the type that can cause "red tides". As far as I know, those types of dinofagellates are more likely to be seen in a colder, temperate water than the tropical temperatures we keep reef tanks at.

Ya I'm talking about dinoflagellates... could they have popped up because of the new sand?. I do use a rodi stage 5 with zero tds. I tried letting it to see if it would go away but its still there.. about the snails that's just something I've read here I wish I could remember the thread..
thanks for your response :)

They could easily come in on new rock or sand. If there is any silicate precipitate from the surface of the new glass of your aquarium that could be the food source. The dinoflagellates will likely disappear within a week or two when it runs out. Just keep vacuuming them out.

well i did 4 days lights out.... all the fuzzy crap is gone in the rocks but i still have it all over the sand. and my overflow boxes. hopefully the peroxide dosing helps.

Be careful on carbon dosing.. it can make the cyano worse. How did the peroxide dosing work so far?

I have a carbon reactor and I have dinos... will the carbon make that worse too? So far the peroxide looks to be helping a little bit. So ill keep adding it

Just bought a reef octopus POV dc3 Skimmer.... should be here Friday :)... that's the good news. The bad news is that I bought a clean up crew and now the fish are rubbing. Haven't seen any white spots but I'm thinking I need to catch the fish some how and stick them in the qt :(. Any advice on catching 2 clowns a carpenter wrasse and 2 lyretail anthias?

well the 12 week fallow period is over.... i lost a few fish in QT to ich before the cupramine got here... 3 lyre tail anthias and my carpenters wrasse were KIA. my two clowns and baby hippo tang are back in the 180.

Just picked up two yellow assessors and they are in the QT for 9 weeks

Wow just saw I had this thread... That said I have a few updates.

My fiancée and I moved into our first house together and we will be bringing the 180 to the new house shortly. We also are replacing the stand since the other one is pretty old and beat up. That said all said I will post pictures tonight
