Here it is im finally getting a 75 gallon tank! Ive been looking forward to geeting a tank like this for a long time(im too excited lol)...and of course im going to have questions so i know this setup is properly duscused and is properly worked on....i would like to make a note that i am going to be building a canopy for the top, hopefully gettin a hallide t-5 combo for lights, and either drilling it or doing an over flow for a 30 gallon sump. Hopefully this setup looks as good as i want it and looks as good as it sounds...i will be keeping updates from day to day as i start my journey in this new build!

I also have some questions too to help me out. Hope they can be answered!

Do i really need a 30 gallon sump or c an i go smaller?
How big of a water cahnge?
Powerhead ideas?
Light fixtures for a good price?

Hopefully someone will help me along and ill find some used equipment to help me along in this build!

Happy reefing everyone!:bounce1::fish1::reading::beer:

larger the water volume the better...so id say 30 should be your smallest size sump ud want to do.

if it was a SPS tank id do 10 gallons a week. LPS then 5-10 every 2 weeks.

not too keen on koralias in my tank, but i use them and they are cheaper. but if u can get a mp-40. just one of those and returns would be good.

and yeah hopefully i can find an mp40 for a decent price...maybe koralias not the best but they can work for now i guess

Would a maxijet 1200 be good for now? as i mostl ikely will just try to get the tank cycing first lol...hopefully i can save up for a vortech

Holy ebay whore lol!

Peruse the classifieds here on rc...chk out your lfs.

There are tons of options for you...lots of peeps like the tek fixtures. I have a used one that needs new endcaps..it is a 48" 6x54w version and I got it from a member here for $150. You just have to do some legwork/research.

Good luck!

thanks? anyone know what kind of tangs i can put in the tank along with what other fish i can put in?

check the sticky about tang and tank sizes in the New to the Hobby forum. It lists minimum tank sizes for a whole bunch of tangs.

Here are sompicturs of the stand and tank...as you can we have to reinforce the stand with some braces from 2x4's and put a top on the stand to give it more support...much more to come!

Hey Aaron. Why do you have eggcrate at the bottom of the tank? A few years back when I had my 135 I thought of doing it to protect the rocks from falling and cracking the glass. I then was properly informed that it will inhibit the sand to turn over correctly and it would be harder for sand sifting organisms to travel through the sand. Just my two cents but I decided to do away with the eggcrate and make sure the rock work was put in before sand and that the rock work was extremely sturdy. HTH's man!

Alright thanks mike! idk im just trying some different stuff after that i dont think im going to do the eggcrate i guess...i can always do the sand then rocks too but thanks for the head up!

and make sure the rock work was put in before sand and that the rock work was extremely sturdy.

+1! If you put sand in first, then add the rock, you run the risk of a stack collapse.

Also...that stand scares the %$%# out of me. Be very strategic on where you add your 2x's. Basically you have a shell of a stand as it is now.

Here are some pictures after the fram build and stand fixing...couldnt have done it without my pops!

We also picked up sand too to start this build off...more to come!
(also removed the egg crate from bottom)!

The framing on the stand looks better for sure...could you take a pic of where the 2x4's hit the bottom, inside the stand?
