So far I figure the outside box needs to be about 8x4x10 and the emergency drain hole should probably go 3/4 to 1" in from the side of the box. The hole for the 1 1/2 bulkhead that holds the two boxes together shouldn't go any higher then 6 1/2 to 7". End up using 2" of PVC for the main drain and 8" for the emergency.
Thinking on this some more I don't want the box to be 10" high. I want it more like 8 1/2". So 8x4x8.5 and I want the hole for the connecting bulkhead about 1 or 2" below that. I want the emergency pipe around the bottom of the outside trim so the weir is covered by the trim.
So The tank I had was used. The trim was all scuffed up and it was kinda in rough shape. I was never fully happy with it. At first I thought i'll replace the trim but after checking around trim is expensive and hard to find. I found a place online that has it for $17 but the shipping is $17. Then I thought I could paint the trim. I looked it up and people have done so before. I was getting ready to give this a go when I noticed the trim had a big crack in it. At this point I figured I might as well take the trim off I have nothing to lose. I started on the bottom trim first. I got it off all right.
I decided to give the top trim a go. I could not get this off. Finally I got a corner free and started to work on another corner and then there was a pop :blown:
Part of the glass broke :rolleye1: long story short I was able to talk my wife into letting me get a new tank which is what I really wanted in the first place. Hell she wants to get a 100 gallon but I don't want to start from scratch.
