75 gallon reef build

The build may be slow wrxreefer, but I appreciate the follow. I'll be sure to list any and all problems I have. Any input on my coral list? I picked that list from the beginners area on live aquaria, as jlylec suggested. Also, how difficult are anemones to keep? I really like the bubble tip.

you have a Great start.i have the same AquaticLife Light.it has been a good light.i did change my t5s bulbs to (1)54W 12000K ATI Aquablue Special T5 HO Bulb,(2) 54W ATI Blue Plus T5 HO Bulb,(1) 48" 54W ATI True Actinic 03 T5 HO Bulb. i like how the ATI bulbs look.

I will have to check out the different bulbs, I need to replace the ones I have. They are 8 months old.

Sweet awesome glad to hear it

a temp controller may be a big thing. It might seem silly but heaters fail. My brand new heater failed I'm 3 days and my controller prevented my temps from cooking things.... Might be worthwhile to get sooner than later

doing my research tonight on temp controls tonight, thanks for the advice. Any good brands that I should check out?

Coral list looks good! Leathers are very easy to keep, as are zoas. LPS can be a little more challenging, I've heard candy canes are easy to care for, can't say I've heard the same about a brain or plate (I haven't heard the opposite though!). Currently I in the LPS department I have a lobophyllia frag, and a small duncan frag, both of which are doing well. To answer your question about the anemones, I've learned that bubble tips are probably the easiest to keep through my experience. Just make sure you feed it and it should do fine. I actually just had to get rid of mine because I had to take a rather LARGE gold striped maroon out of the tank, and broke the bond between the anemone and clown, so the anemone unfooted itself from the rock, stopped eating, and started dying... I hope to get another one though! Good luck!

JBl makes a good one. But you want to consider if you just want a heat controller or a multipurpose controller like RKL, apex, ect. You may think its cheaper to go with just a timer for your lights, heater, pumps, then just getting a complete one but i find the complete ones are much better IMO. Totally your call....

Also as for an anemone, your tank needs to mature a lot before you can get one. People say a minimum of 6 months. From what i have read and heard, bubble tips and carpets are the easiest to keep though

great start!

some suggestions, zoanthids/palys are poisonous so be careful if you didn't know already.

look into an Apex controller to control ATO, heater etc

also eshopps are good sumps, I would suggest you look at their refugium series though, I was going to get the one you got but found their refugium series pretty much the same thing but has the following setup and better for a reef keeper. That way you can add a refugium later on if you want by simply adding a light and some chaeto maybe.

Intake | Skimmer stand/area | Refugium | Return pump section

My lights already have a built in timer, as for now I can just go with a temp control and once I go bigger then invest in an apex. I'll check out JBl though. Why do tanks need to mature before certain animals are added? Is it to build up beneficial bacteria and things like that?

I did not know they were poisonous. What does that mean for my fish? and myself? hahha I don't want to rush to the emergency room because I was playing with corals. Will check out the fuges tonight, didn't know they made that as well. Thanks for the input, more picture coming soon. Stand will be in friday!

While waiting on my equipment to come in, I've been doing some rereading on this book. Where the research all started, I highly recommend this book to anyone just starting Saltwater tanks!

Sorry i knew i was tired when writing that its JBJ. Here are a couple quickly:

http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store...-heaters/finnex-deluxe-heater-controller.html

As for tank maturing you got it. Even though your tank finishes a cycle there is a lot more going on in the water. Things to finish "completely" establishing for certain picky animals to be happy in the conditions. It also allows for you to make sure you have stable parameters (ph, temp, salinity, chemicals, etc) cause some animals like bta dont do well with fluctuations.

Also for zoas being poisonous they arent like going to kill you ( in a small does you would be exposed.. dont eat them...) on the spot but they do release a toxin that has cardiogenic/respitory/gastrointestinal/muscle based effects. Just wash your hands after handling them and some say wear goggles when fragging them as spray can get in your eyes and give you mild symptoms. Its called platytoxin if you wanted to research it

Cannot decide between the Ocellaris clowns or the black ones, but that's okay. I've got plenty of time.
We were in Pure Reef(thanks to Grassroots for telling me about that place) on Saturday & they had a Black Clown in display tank. His color was AWESOME!!! My wife & sister were stunned when they saw it.

Where is that fish store located?

Pure Reef is....

From Georgia 400 North:

Take Exit 11 (Windward Parkway). Turn Left at the botton of the ramp onto Windward Parkway. Follow Windward Parkway to the intersection of Atlanta Highway/GA Hwy 9. Turn right onto Atlanta Highway/GA Hwy 9. Our store is located on the left across the street from Cactus Car Wash.

From Georgia 400 South:

Take Exit 11 (Windward Parkway). Turn Right at the botton of the ramp onto Windward Parkway. Follow Windward Parkway to the intersection of Atlanta Highway/GA Hwy 9. Turn right onto Atlanta Highway/GA Hwy 9. Our store is located on the left across the street from Cactus Car Wash.

haha I was wondering when I googled that the right thing didn't pop up. Sweet, I'm checking them out now, thanks for the links.

Ah, I see. Want my tank to be stable before I put any picky corals/fish in there. What's bta?

alright man, washing of the hands noted. I will however google platytoxin just learn a little more about it

That's why I cannot decide! They look absolutely beautiful! I've heard of pure reef before, and I don't live to far from exit 15 off of 400. That's really close to northpoint mall. I will have to check it out this weekend. Marine designs is off peachtree parkway and mcginnis ferry. 15 minute drive from my house. if you google search marine designs you can get a better idea of where it is!

bta= Bubble tip anemone. Good luck with the tank. only wish any lfs within 100 miles looked as nice as yours.

Thanks man, I cannot wait to get it started. I really love my lfs, i'll post some inside pictures when I get my stand friday. They have a really nice 400g acrylic, I stare at it for atleast 20 minutes while I'm there.

Waddle, I'm really liking the JBJ TrueTemp! Once the tank is up and running for a month or two I will invest in one along with a fuge.

Definitely a good choice. I have the apex and I love it. I am currently doing a 150 build and i think i am going to try rkl but still undecided

Sweet equipment. A controller such as apex is going to simplify your life so much in the long run. Worth every penny. Goodluck and keep us updated

Apex controllers are pretty sweet, and will definitely buy one when I upgrade to a bigger tank. Stand is at the lfs, picking up tomorrow along with a powerhead (if my bank account allows me!) Will setup tank, stand, and sump tomorrow!!
