75 gallon set up and stocking advice

Hi everyone,

I’m buying my friends FOWLR tank off him as he is giving up the hobby. I have kept freshwater for years. I have done many research over the years as contemplated saltwater for quite some time, so I’m not going in to this blind but any advice would be greatly appreciated or even other fish suggestions.
The current stock is;
Blue tang
Ocellaris pair
2 blue chromis
1 cleaner shrimp.

I would like to add the following over time, I’m looking for advice whether it would work with the current stock and a suggested order I would add the following fish:
mckoskers flasher wrasse
melanurus wrasse
Royal gramma
Coral beauty
Orange spot goby
Bi colour Blenny

Thanks

Just to jump the gun a little bit, the blue tang will likely outgrow the 75 so I would plan on either an upgrade or have a plan in place in the future.

To your actual question though, the blue tang will likely show territorial aggression to any newcomers.

The goby and blenny could likely be added at any point due to primarily being rock/bottom dwellers.

My melanurus was a major PITA when I had him in my 65 so I’d probably look at adding that towards the end.

Last I knew mcoskers, the angel and royal gramma lean more peaceful (though grammas and angels I think can lean territorial) and could be added towards the beginning.

With that said, and this is just my opinion, 11 fish is a pretty heavily stocked 75 tank. I would ensure you have sufficient rock work for territory and hiding. If it was me, I’d maybe add, at the most, 3 of the additional fish.

I would consider trade the Blue tang for a flame fin, kole or even a yellow tang. I would add the tang, Melanurus and Angel last. Also consider a Flame or Flameback Angels. IMO these are more beautiful coloration than Coral Beauty. I do recognize that beauty is in thebeye of the beholder.
All the other fish are fine together.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread.

I would be looking to rehome the tang as I knew these guys need a bigger tank. Im
not in any rush to add the other fish immediately.

On the melanurus wrasse, I have head a few things about these guys. Would this be ok with the cleaner shrimp? It’s a fairly large one and would be looking to try and get a small melanurus.

I personally didn’t think this was heavily overstocked if I was to get rid of the tang, I was under the impression that the sump it has will be able to manage the bioload.

Thank you for the reply.

Yes I was going to re home the blue tang, i don’t think stores round my way will allow to trade fish around here.

Will the melanurus be safe with the large cleaner shrimp?

I will look in the the above angels mentioned.
Thank you for the suggestion.

Do you think this tank is overstocked?
