Yeah I guess we are the odd ducks of reef keeping. But we (our tanks anyway) are proof that it can be done.

I really never saw enough pros of a sump on a tank this size other than to hide your equipment and get some extra water volume. I understand that you will need a sump once a tank is too big for a hob skimmer.

My tank is an "off the shelf" 55 with tempered glass so it never really was an option for me. I may move up to a 75 or 90 in the future but I'll stick with the HOB's if I do step up. It's just so much easier.

I do like having the canister filter versus a hob filter, that makes it look a lot cleaner in the tank.

I do run a cannister so I can do carbon and Gfo and such. But it does hang on the back. I put a black cover on the back of the tank so I can't really see it. Pretty much the same as painting the back glass to hide cords and equipment.

I also wanted to have the tank as close to the wall as possible(i got it to 4 inches), so I went with a canister filter and the aqua c skimmer because they have a really small profile on the back.

In your second pic you are showing some frags punched on the plastic light fixture. How are you holding it up and keeping it up with out it falling. What are you using? I need to know please.
