I am getting quite frustrated taking pics. I have some zoas that I would call remarkable, but as they say a picture is worth a 1000 words. I just can't get a decent one. But after taking 75 using differant options on the camera I have 2 that arn't bad.

what kind of camerea?

some tips. .

-turn off all flow
-use the camera's macro mode
-make sure glass is super clean
-use a simple tripod for stability
-try at different distances and zooms
-try one with the lens right up against the glass. .

A method that works w/ some digital cameras is to use a magnifying glass, then you don't have to zoom as much and therefore it will allow a better quality pic to be taken.

I feel your pain. I took tons of pictures and would only get 1 or 2 that looked good. Teremei gave some good suggestions. Depending on the type of camera you have you can set the aperature to get a larger depth of field. Also if you have the ability I would play with the white balance... or take it in raw mode then adjust the white balance. This has given me varied results. I also recommend limiting the amount of bright surfaces if you are taking a picure of something dark. It tends to wash out the image.

Lastly I recommend reading this article it helped me alot.

Good Luck

Also I have laerned that when using a macro lense that I have issues taking pictures through cureved surfaces (front of my tank is bowed) and also that you have to be perpendicular to the glass. Even though our eyes can adjust and see everything correctly my camera can't detect the correct settings and I get blurred images. Just a few thoguhts after looking at your pics again.

Thanks for the link. Some good pointers there. This weekend the Rockford Reef club's meeting is on photograhy. We have a memeber who is simi-pro and will help us out. Hopefully I will be able to change the 75:2 ratio

You need a tripod or something to rest the camera on. You can't take decent macro's without a stable camera...I learned that after about a year.
