750 gallon glass tank

Mr. Wilson has, in the past, recommended "BASF Emaco S88ci waterproof marine grade cement that is protected against sulphide attack. Microsilica as a 10% admix will help make it more sculptable, cure faster, pH balanced, stickier and stronger without shrinkage cracks."

Was able to get a fairly decent scape without using any rods or mortar.

The Marco Rock, especially after being acid bathed is very sharp and stacks together very well.

Almost two years later and nothing has moved.

what....pictures of a wood box aren't good enough?? Cut me some slack man...I got 4 young kids, 2 businesses I'm in the middle of taking over, and a house we're living in and still trying to finish. Plus its summer...the best summer we've ever had. And we all know how hard it is to work on our tanks with the out doors calling our name. Maintaining a big tank in the summer is one thing...completely setting one up is a whole different story.
I'll get some pictures of the tank in place and the progress of the fish room soon. Will be needing some ideas too.

I love pictures like the ones you posted with heavy equipment being involved to move tanks. I get a chuckle out of thinking what on earth the neighbor's think is going on. Especially when there is a big crane involved, then it just takes on a whole new level of awesomeness.

So that pettibone is your brother in laws? Does he have a pretty sizeable construction company I take it? Great tank dimensions too, 10' x 4' and semi shallow (at least in comparison to length and width) is my dream tank size.
 
No...not a construction company. They use it to move huge bunks of wood around. They make erosion control stakes.
These machines aren't exactly steady. Took about 10 minutes to get up the driveway. Then about an hour to maneuver it into the garage and on the 4 hydrolic carts I traded some labor to borrow from a truck parts company. If he wasn't able to do this, not sure what we would have done. There would have been no way to get it out of the semi. I guess sometimes its who you know, not how much money you have. Cuz believe me, if I had to depend on my pocket book...I'd have gotten a much smaller tank. Even now Im wondering how in the world this thing is ever even gonna get finished. I try not to think how much I've spent just on the fish room alone...and looking ahead at all what I gotta get yet....
Where theres a will theres a way.
 
Finally getting somewhere. Spent this past week building the face. The room isn't all that big (14 x 15) but its where we spend a lot of our time after dinner. Kinda overpowers the room, but who cares.



A view before the garage was drywalled. Decided to build a hill on the one side. the overflow is 24" for a size comparison. The rock is man made Fiji rock and cemented together with 1 part Portland cement to 1 part solar salt. Then more salt smashed in the wet concrete to make it look close to the Fiji. Its gonna be a different color for a while. Any ideas on coloring it?

This took FOREVER. an entire Saturday. But it worked perfectly. Now to complete the hill, I have to use spray foam to fill in the gap between the rock and the glass so fish don't get trapped in there.

6" I beams. Got them from a scrap steel place for 20 bucks each. Went on line and they are over 100.00 each



A shot of the 3rd stall. Still undecided where to put the sump. Do you see an issue with building a half wall to it and place the sump there? Then run plumbing along that half wall from the tank to the sump? I think if it goes under the tank, I'll regret not using the rest of the space for it. Under the tank could be used for the 100 gallon waterchange barrel and the auto top off tank. Thoughts?

 
One thing I didn't mention is with putting the sump there, the "pond" can go between the the sump and the tank and making it a triangular shape. There will be a plank along the back of the display tank for easy maintenance on the display. The "pond" won't really need maintenance. And I can access the sump from the outside.
Seems like it would work great to me. But then again, many of my ideas fail miserably. Looking for thoughts on this.
 
I really like an open aquascape. Different colors will get covered up with coralline in due course - I wouldn't worry about it.
 
BTW, don't seal up the rock sides so much that you cannot get some water movement around the eggcrate structure. Also, might be useful to drop a few bits of PVC under there for fish to sleep in a night.

Do I sense sarcasm here?? I know it doesn't look like much at all, but that hill was not easy to build. In a small tank it would have been simple, but doing that in a big tank was quite a challenge. there's a lot of climbing in and out of the tank, up and down a ladder over and over, mixing small batches of concrete because it started setting up in a few minutes. Total time into it was easily 10 hours if you include the eggcrate structure. And that was having my daughter helping me. It was fun to do, but I'm also glad its done.

So do I. But not too open. Planning on doing an eggcrate/foam/live rock wall covering the right overflow and bringing it around the whole right wall ending about 6" from the front of the tank. Then a few smaller stuctures in the middle. But it will stay a pretty open scape. This we can build outside the tank and attach it in sections...in theory. Not sure how to attach it, but there must be a way.

Going with a 1-2" sand bed so the eggcrate will be covered. There are a lot of threads discussing using or not using eggcrate under rockwork and the sand in case a rock falls. Whats you opinion? Should I sprayfoam what I have on the ground so far to fill in all the little squares?
