I'm confused - it looks like your overflow boxes are already in place. Is that an optical illusion? If they are in place, are they made from glass or acrylic?

Anxiously awaiting the water tests!

for the silicone we have to wait 2 weeks... but we'll wait one month... anyway we wont be ready to put water in it before that

yes we will get a BIG ventilation systeme... still now sure witch one

the light will be hanging over the tank, we won't do a canopy, but the front of the tank will be close with door giving us access to the front of the tank

as for the corals, it will be a mixte reef (soft,lps,sps) , lot of clam (hoping my little angels won't botther them)

lightsluvr : yes the overflow are already there, but in front of it we will put an acrylic sheet with a comb (not sur if it's the right word) so the fishes won't fall in it
 
You should try to get your hands on a more rare type of Clown the Wide Band they actually roam in three's 1 large female and 2 smaller males there expensive but well worth it

The problem with Latezonus clowns is that A) They're hard to find, and B) he's trying to get a large-ish shoal of them, a la Mobert's tank.
 
I would probably be able to get the wide band clownfish... but I don't really like the look of them :hmm2:

I love O.R.A. clownfish so I would have like to add lot of juvenile clownfish (picasso, naked, platinium)... but it seem that for it to work out well I would need more than 7 (what Mobert said)

but again, all Mobert's clowns, are brothers... I still didn't get any info if someone had try having that many clownfish (no related) in a tank this size

also... the ventilation systeme, we want to control it with our Profilux (with a humidity probe) but we still don't know what to use, so if one of you could help us with that, it would be very helpfull! :)

I have a suggestion: The inside corner of the L is the weakest point of the tank. From what I've heard, one good knock on that place will take out the whole tank. You might consider something to protect that part of the glass. In mine, I had the cement guy create a rock feature that fits entirely over the corner, keeping me from hitting the glass there directly.

or at least a good carpenter to put you a sturdy decorative corner right there.
 
yea, but with all the water forces pushing out, wouldnt you want something on the outside preventing the corner form expanding outward.

and yes, i read your post a little fast and didnt see where you had said "inside" its very obvious now when i went back and looked.

Yes it is. There are so many great tanks for us to look up to. I cant wait to see your fish room and how you lay out your sump and equipment. Sometimes I find those as interesting as the tank. To see how other people plum and wire up there tanks is cool. Im anal as hell so its got to look clean!
 
How about some glass details?

How are those edges cut? Why are the cut?
What did you use for silicone?
What did you use to square everything up while assembling?

as for the edges cut, I don't know how Miracle does that, it's just for the finition I think...

as for the silicone, we use GE 1200
and we use Corner Clamps to keep the glass on place :)
 
Thanks for the response Marie, you're going to get me in trouble with my woman however from this build, since this is along the lines of what I want to do :D I've been working on a project with a smaller tank 80g (broken LeeMar) that I rebuilt using Dow 795 with a PVC bottom that I wanted to try on a smaller scale to see if it actually works before committing to something large :D

I just would think those edges beveled down like that would provide a weak point since the glass is thinner there now, of course it could be that the picture is exaggerating how large the edging is.

Without divulging any more info that you want to, how much did the glass cost vs cost of them building it?

I know Miracles is a Canadian company (are you close to them? Or was it still a shipment across the country?) but I've looked at quotes, for some standard sized "custom" tanks, and it's pretty damn outrageous. Plus I really like building things myself :) I simply ask about cost because I have a local glass man in our reef club locally, that can get me some decent prices on glass, but I'm not sure if they do low iron.
 
well we had a really good deal with Miracle, I'm not sure I can tell the price they give us, since they give us this price only because we are a good costumer

but we had no choice but to glue the tank ourselves... since it's in L shape, there's no way we would have been able to make it enter the house

the other choice we had, was that one of Miracle team would come to our house and glue it on place... but that was VERY expensive... so only option : DIY

Miracle is an Ontario compagny and we live in Quebec... not THAT far... but not close either, but since all the glass enter on a skid the cost wasn't so bad :)
 
talking about glass, what was done on the bottom? is there 1 seam with thick glass or 2 seams that are staggered made of thinner glass? and as far as the beveled glass, Oceanic tanks use that same method of bevel and there tanks were top of the line forever.
 
If you think about it, the bevel on the glass actually gives you MORE surface area for gluing.

Say your glass is 1/2" thick. If you have a 3/8" surface in the middle and the 2 bevels are each 1/8", then you have 5/8" surface width rather than 1/2" to glue to. The silicone will fill the gap left by the bevels anyway. :)

Do you have a link to the Marinetech products? There seem to be a million non-aquarium companies named marinetech.
