Looks like a good setup.

How well did you resell your Euro-reef for? Most of what you paid for it, I hope, or are you still running it as well? Is your Deltec starting to bring in more skimmate now that is broken in?

When I do sell my ER I don't plan on making money on it. The money I spent on the Skimmer after all the mods was a lot of money. I would never expect someone to pay for all the mods I had done to it.

After all the mods were done and Fedex costs were taken in to account, I could have bought a Deltec AP600 from the start.

The main reason for changing from the ER to the Deltec was the fact that Deltec is the next step up. I always wanted one and it performs the way I thought it would, flawlessly.

The ER was a great skimmer for being IMO a #2 skimmer. The price and performance of the ER's can't be beat to some degree.

After learning about the ASM's and seeing a ASM in operation I have come to believe that the ASM is in fact a better unit for the price.

If I was in the market for a ER type Skimmer I would go with the ASM. Same performance, better price.

Deltec,H&S,BK's are the next step up IMO.

I still want to try out a Beckett:)

ATM the ER skimmer is running on Travis's tank.
 
Arconom, How does that shopvac work on the bigger pieces of detritus? I get these big pieces that pile up but are too heavy for the flow in the tank and too heavy to suck out with a regular siphon. HD has a 5HP one with a 12g container for $25.00. If it grabs the bigger stuff, then I'm all over it. Thanks for the idea!
 
Atm I'm trying different pieces to make a happy medium. Depending on the hole size of the pipe you can pick up anything. If you look at one of my pictures you will see before I reduced the pipe size I was vacuming up astrea snails.

If I could change one thing it would be the next size up. The vac has a built in float swich that cuts out when theres to much water. But it only gets filled half way and stops sucking.
 
I'm sure you could mod it.

I also have to buy a check valve. Everytime you shut the vac off some dirty water re enters the tank.
 
I have been thinking alot about running a Phosphate Reactor. I'm just having trouble deciding on what media to use. Either Phosban or ROWAphos?

I'm not sure which to try. Either way I will be using much less then they say to even start with.
 
i have been running a phosphate reactor for over a yeat i bet. after my whole oceanic p04 loaded salt incident :(

i run a phosban reactor but will have a reefmania.net one on monday prolly.

i ahve used phosban ONLY. i figured for the price differnce i can buy 2times as much phosban even if it is less effective then rowaphos. never had a problem w/ phosban either

Reefmania uses those thumbscrew in there reactors I hate that:( I wonder if they could make them with a turn cap?

Also Lunch you never told me where to buy that Effuent gauge thing?
 
yeah thumb screws are ok. i bet he could put a union on the top. like a 2" union or 2.5" and put an acrylic plate in it like on a lot of kalk reactors. that work???

i got my effluent meter from www.reefmania.net contact bob and see where he gets them

Erik, I know you like to spend your $$$ on quality, however, the new inexpensive TLF Phosban Reactor 150 has a new design. It was originally built with thumb screws. They've changed the design and it now has a screw on top. I have the new one.

Seeing that this is a very low flow, low tech type of reactor, there is no need to spend big bucks on any custom type of reactor. The TLF reactor can hang on your sump and you're set to go.

The Two Little Fishies Phosban Reactor (Model 2) is great. That screw top is off with a quarter turn. You can use whatever media you like.
 
I agree Russ I think your totally right. I will be buying the Phosban 150 unit. I will use the money that I was going to spend on the Deltec reactor and buy some more corals.

Does it come with those hose clamps in the pictures? Also that little ballvalve?

What Media do you you guys use? Russ, Marc and Lunch?

I also might get another for carbon.

my phosban came w/ the ballvalve but NOT the hose. you don't get hoes for free you know :lol:

Phosban. You could also use it for carbon too. It would require a much higher flow for carbon use, so I elected to go with the MRC Fluidized Media Chamber for carbon. But the TLF is perfect for the phosban. Cheap little ball valve is included. MUST RESTRICT FLOW INTO THE CHAMBER, NOT AFTER IT. Back pressure on this chamber could cause it to fail, so just put a ball valve to regulate the gentle flow before water enters the chamber. Otherwise, great piece of inexpensive equipment.

I don't know anything about Lunchbucket's "hoes", but I have run Phosban, Pura Phoslock, ROWAphos, etc. Currently I'm using up some Pura that I have on the shelf, then I'm going to ROWAphos-type media that I bought in bulk.

I do run one for carbon too.
 
So Russ I could use the ballvalve that comes with it for that.? Right?

Do you guys notice a decline in algea when using it?
