Hope he'll send to Japan. :D

Just wanted to ask a question on the TLF reactors. I have 2 of these and two of the Kent's version to see which is best or maybe use all 4 if my 340 demands it. Someone said that if you put carbon in one of these reactors (as I intend to do) then it needs higher flow than the phosban ones. I was going to run the phosban reactors on an MJ 600 or even 400. What should I use on the carbon reactors? Maybe something like an MJ 1200?

Maybe Nylon rod?

I ordered the acrylic rod. It was 2.00 and something a foot for cast. I got the extruded it was 45cent a foot. I don't think it should matter?

arconom, where did you order the acrylic rod? I'm am thinking the same thing with rasing the rock.

You don't really need high flow through the carbon, according to this article. http://www.pets-warehouse.com/carbon.htm

I just use whatever powerhead is handy and it seems to be working out well. The new TLF reactors are great; I just wish all three of mine were the newer version, but I have two of the older ones with all the thumbscrews. Oh well.

Eric, the Effluent Reactor looks like the one posted in my thread in RHF's forum. I'm thinking about buying one too, but if there is no PO4 in my new media, I don't see the need.

arconom, thanks for the info. I will be ordering one for sure, it's just a matter of when.

NexDog, not sure what size powerhead you would need as I don't own a TLF reactor. I'm guessing that what was meant by needing more flow is that it will require more flow to fluidize the carbon as it is larger than the GFO. I would think a MJ 1200 would be more than enough and you can just dial it back to where it just starts to fluidize the carbon.

melev, any calcium reactor media is going to have some P04 in it. If it doesn't register on your salifert kit, it doesn't mean it is P04 free. The salifert kit just isn't capable of picking up small amounts of P04. The only way to know if something is truly P04 free is with a Merck or Deltec kit, or a colorimeter. Even with one of those there is still a small margin of error. Basically what I'm trying to say is that any reactor media has P04 in it and it would be beneficial to run it through a P04 absorbing media, IMO.:)

If that is the case, then I'll probably order one of those effluent reactors after all. I'm sure I could make something myself, but I really like the look of that one and it has already been redesigned three times to the point of what it is today. I see no reason to reinvent the wheel, and would rather just get this one because it looks beautiful and will do the job.

It discussions like these that make my wanna hug my 40G, the kalk bin, and... ha! that's it! If only my wife knew the hardships you people go through with the larger tanks, she just might appreciate my smaller tank fetish... then again she'd have to be somewhat into reefing.. and that will occur as soon as pigs fly :P

Hey Marc, I figured you would love this... "What's worse than have a reefer with halides as your next door neighbor?... this guy"

What the....
hey electrobes , that is a great video ! we got that at work and tried to figure out if it was real , came to the conclusion that it was stop photography - watch the grass in front ! great video none the less .:)

Well I recieved my Rowaphos today and my TLF 150 reactor. I also ordered some ESV carbon.

Is this how most plumb a Phosban reactor?

Also what should I use to measure the amount I want in my reactor. I want much less then recommended. I also want to keep track of what I have tried and what are the effects.

Should I use one of those ML cups from ESV B-ionic? I thought liquid measure was different then dry.

You definitely are no Rembrandt, but yes, that's how it should work. BTW, I'd put a ball valve between the pump to the reactor and the reactor itself.

Russ

Ok so the ballvalve included would be used for Slowing the water going into the the Reactor from the pump? So it would perculate like many say the media should look like.

But you recommend another to control Flow rate coming out also?

So 2 Ballvalves in total?

I wish I could draw better :( I'm trying Russ, I'm getting better.

Ok I'm trying to understand why the Directions say what they do on the placement of the Sponges and dispersion plate on my new TLF 150 twist top reactor.

Yep, I've got two and don't quite understand that yet. So will wait with you and see what someone says. :)

NO BALL VALVE AFTER THE OUTFLOW. The Phosban Reactor is not manufactured to withstand the backpressure. Only one ball valve, before the input.

Russ

Thanks Russ. It sounded like you meant I needed another ballvalve in addition to the one that comes with the unit.

Russ if you still have that salt I will take it off your hands:)

Tommorow I will be testing my Effuent alk of my Calcium Reactor and my Tank alk. I haven't touched a thing since my last few changes last week. I have to say, my Effuent PH is rock solid at 6.7

I also am looking into purchasing a Hanna colorimeter a very accurate Phosphate testing device.

It's between the D-D Phosphate test. Basically a very accurate regent based test. Which is open to color interpretation by the end user.

Site Link

http://www.deltecusa.us/aquariummedia/phosphatetestkit.php

Price: $89.99

Refill Kit: $42.99

Or the Hanna Colorimeter

About $160 plus $22 for the reagents (100 tests)

You already know which one I would get.:D

The way I see it is, when you get an accurate instrument like that you start having fun and checking things like your RO water, water change water, reactor effluent, different foods mixed with water, carbon, different reactor medias, RO water after soaking reactor media in it or after soaking skeletons in it, different salt mixes, etc., etc. In the long run, you will save with the colorimeter as the reagent replacement will be cheapet than test kit refills. Plus you don't have to worry about interpreting slight color changes which leads to a larger margin of error.

where is the cheapest place to get a colorimeter?? i'd like to get one!! i want to know what my po4 is for SURE

Lunchbucket

You can get one from Madison Belanger a.k.a. OUinLA. He was "moved on" from this board but you can pm him over on z dot com. As far as I know, he is the only one that is able to get it and sell it for retail.

In other words Lunchbucket,,,,
