You already know which one I would get.:D

The way I see it is, when you get an accurate instrument like that you start having fun and checking things like your RO water, water change water, reactor effluent, different foods mixed with water, carbon, different reactor medias, RO water after soaking reactor media in it or after soaking skeletons in it, different salt mixes, etc., etc. In the long run, you will save with the colorimeter as the reagent replacement will be cheapet than test kit refills. Plus you don't have to worry about interpreting slight color changes which leads to a larger margin of error.

I agree...

The world of $$$$

Isn't that the truth. The zeo world is not for the poor or even middle class person, that is for sure. I honestly considered trying it a while back but when you figure in the monthly costs for a large system it is insane. I already spend enough for salt and electricity. My monthly expenses would have tripled had I gone to the "dark side", and that is not including initial start up costs. All I know is that T. Pohl must be one rich man.

I think the method has its warrants. I've seen some great looking zeo tanks. I've also seen some not so great ones. But I've seen other tanks run by other methods that looked just as good, if not better. I recently saw a picture of MiddletonMark's bb tank. Had I not already known that he was not a zeovit user, I would have assumed it was a zeo tank. He just uses BB with wet skimming and achieves the same results.

After reading Lunchbucket's Hydroid problem I think this might work. Lunch post about Hydroids and see how they feed.

Many others have AIPTASIA problems. I have decided to share something.

I was reading alot about AIPTASIA control and destruction with my old setup where it was out of control.

I read the same information again and again about destroying AIPTASIA . After reading articles on RC the information would be so diluted that it was a joke. The main reason for this was hand me down information.

I tried it all. I had a nice looking tank with Stonies getting stung left and right:(

Joe's Juice is a joke IMO
KALK slurry is a Joke IMO
Peppermint Shrimp are hit and miss.
Lemon juice ? Yeah ok:(
Boiling water? Yeah sure

I have decided to take out my camera and take pictures of a guaranteed solution for AIPTASIA. Pros and cons...

Cons Increasing Salinity.

Considering in my old setup I used this stuff none stop,I don't see it as a con.

Pros-Destruction to AIPTASIA

This is coming from a person who never cleans his reef equipment with muric acid for fear of contamination. I just use Vinegar and still do.

SOLUTION-READ IT!!!

I no longer have this problem since cooking my rock but I wanted to share it.

Thanks for that info. That link is now bookmarked in my favorites. I don't have an aiptasia problem right now but I have had a major one in the past and anticipate it will probably happen again in the future. If/when it does, I now know what to use as warfare.;)

I think I may have to hunt down some of that. Stupid things are getting out of control again. :(

Well today is the Vac day. I usually take out about 5 gal of water with the Destritus.

I went to turn on my return pump, the mag 7 and it didn't restart:( It's soaking in vinager.

Also with my order from MD I bought a nice size container of ESV Carbon. I rinsed off 1/2 cup and put it in my filter sock.

I remember last time with my old setup I used to much to fast and the water got so clear my corals bleached:(

Calcium Reactor Update

LAST WEEK

Reactor PH 6.7

Effuent ALK 13.1
Tank ALK 9.6

THIS WEEK

PH of effuent 6.7---ROCK Solid the whole week. I'm very happy it holds the PH.

Alk of effuent-12.5
Tank ALK-9.0

I want to stay in the 8.0-9.0 range

If it goes down to far I will slow the Effuent rate more and bring the PH down to 6.6

Also I received a PM from a certain someone,Lets just say HINT: he used every skimmer out there :D He has been in contact with me to see how I like my calcium reactor. I guess he saw I was in the market for a good phosphate kit.

He has a spare Deltec D-D Phosphate Kit he is selling me for $45.00 it was used maybe 2 times. I'm very happy:)

Don't worry Travis I will eventually buy the Hanna Unit:)

Do you mean 2M, "two molar" (two moles of NaOH per liter of solution)?

Sounds risky to me. NaOH can dissolve skin, I wouldn't put it in my fish tank. I've had great success with a kalk slurry. Mix the kalk and water to a toothpaste-like consistency, then cover the aiptasia with it. Completely cover it. Therefore, the bugger will have no light, and will be covered in kalk. The kalk will eventually dissolve, providing your tank with a little extra alk/Ca.

Gotta love them mag pumps.:( They are notorious for that.

Fliger???????

He has a spare Deltec D-D Phosphate Kit he is selling me for $45.00 it was used maybe 2 times.

Why was he selling his? Did he go with the Hanna?

OMG TRAVIS HOW DID YOU KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!How the heck did you figure out it was Fliger??????????????

Well he bought 2 kits and didn't realize all you had to buy was a refill. He thought you had to buy the whole thing to get the regents. So he bought 2. He is still using the D-D Phosphate kit. Basically the other kit is just sitting around doing nothing. Rather then waste everything in the kit and just use the regents he figured I might want to buy it.

The reason why he used the kit twice was to compare both kits against each other.

This doesn't mean I'm not getting the Hanna but for now this will serve the purpose.

TRAVIS!!!!!!! How did you know who it was ????? What gave it away?????

Lunchbucket

I'm sure there are other places to go to get the meter but the price he is selling it for is most likely the best. Don't forget this isn't a typical piece of Reef Equipment.

arconom, I guess you can say "I know things". It was more of an educated guess really. I know David has used a lot of skimmers. I don't think he has used them all but I know he has used a ER, 3 different H&S models, and a BK. I also know he uses the D-D PO4 kit so I put those all together and that was the best guess I could come up with.:)

Lunch, Madison is the only one that can get you one. If there is anyone else, then nobody I know on RC, RF, or Z know about it. He is a great person to work with so no need to worry. Here is his website, which has his email, in case you are scared to tread into the z board.:D http://pieceofreef.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21

Travis - thanks for the website..i'll email him about one. i really didn't want to sign up to the zeo board just to ask him :D

Well my Kole Tang has done what made me not what to have fish in the first place. He always hides never comes out. He never eats when I feed him. I gave him a Job to clean the Algae and he has done good but now I think he has ick:(

Is there a good section to determine if my Tang really has ick? I can't believe this. Now I will have to spend 100000$ in all weird named cures to get rid of it only for it to come back one day:(

Now my tank will always have ick I guess and it will lay dorment until I get another fish and ATTACK IT !!!! with white dots:(

I'm done with fish no more...........No more fish...

Now I will have to try weird herbs and spices and who knows what else, Garlic,Tobbaco, chewing tobbaco? Peanut butter? Orange juice?

I suppose I will have to catch him and give him a sponge bath?? Yeah ok sure.

I suppose I will have to take him out and bring him to the vet and pay 65.00$ for the visit?

I knew I should have never got a fish. But he was supposed to be a worker. Now Mr Kole Tang is sick.

He's on the next flight to Travis's house.

I might even leave him on Jays Doorstep with a Care Package.

Bax

I have a QT tank. Just not filled with water. I'm just giving these guys a hard time:)

Do I need to cycle this 20 gal QT tank? Or is that not needed?

Ok so I put this thing in the QT and treat it with what? If I put the fish back in the tank won't it get reinfected?

I need a filter I guess for my QT:( Maybe buy a cheapy from Petco?
