I just got my 75g up and running. I am in the middle of my small cycle.

My biggest desision would prob be the lighting, so i have made a poll above for you to please vote on.

My other nessesity are powerheads.

And lastly, a new protein skimmer.

Please vote above ^. any other options, please recommend below.

24 Cree Royal Blue LEDs
12 Cool White
12 Neutral White

NAC7 Skimmer (not listed)
I went with 2 Korallia 1400 on 20 sec timers.

hold up, for all the LEDs, this is enough to keep SPS? also, i would need two seperate dimmers and 4 drivers right?

Three or four AI Sol Blues, a couple MP40s and whatever skimmer you can afford. I like my old Grey Seas Aquatics but these are all personal decisions.

I think 48 LEDs is good. I keep bleaching monti cap on the bottom of the sand bed. I am new to coral so I am not sure if it is the lights or something else.

well it is def ur lights bro, i would dim them a bit.

Where can i buy these AI unitsm i have been looking for them on all major sites

I also would suggest AI Sol blues, you could get away with 2 on a 75g. I did and had lots of SPS although 3 would be ideal. I would also suggest an SWC 160 cone. One of the best skimmers I have used.

Alright so far, it seems that people like the

Tek Light
MP40
RO 150

These seem to be the most ideal options, but i think i might get the new tunze, casue i heard they are going to be amazing. anyone have any news on these new powerheads? are they in major sites now?

Assuming you're willing to go other than DIY on LED's... I'd go with AI Sol Blue's... and I agree, on a 75 - 2 should work well especially depending on your aquascape.

mp40 would be awesome... even better would be an mp40 on one side an mp10 on the other...

for skimmers you list octopus 150 or else SRO1000sss... If you're limited on space, I understand the SRO1000sss... but if you're limited on space, you wouldn't be listing the octopus 150, which has a big footprint. If you're considering the SRO1000sss... skip it and go for the SRO1000int. I was debating these two and CoralVue said that SRO1000int would give slightly better performance, and they really only recommend the sss model for people who don't have space for the int model. I'm very happy with my SRO1000int... I didn't realize skimmers could pull as much crap out of my water as this thing is able to!

dude, the AI sols are EXTREMLY expensive, about $550 a pop. Assuming 2 is enough, and three is ideal, im looking at $1100 to $1650. I would clearly rather get a normal T5 or MH fixture, and just pay for the bulbs over time, because i can come up with the $150 it takes to replace the bulbs yearly, but i cant come up with $1000 by this month...

well, yes, i am open for DIY LEDs.

Does the 48 LED system Crees work?

24 royal blue
12 cool white
12 neutral white?

would this give me the same spectrum as a ATI T5 fixture?

From my reading - no first hand knowledge you need 1 watt of LED for every 3 watts of T5.
So if these are 39 watt bulbs then 6 bulbs is roughly 240 watts. That would relate to about 80 watts of LEDs. So if you get 48 LEDs you can run them at 1.667 watts and be equivalent. From what I have read. So it sounds like it would be more than enough.

On a more personal level I have 48 over a 75 with 40/60 degree optics 2.5-3 feet up at half power. I think I have to much light since everything keeps bleaching, but I am new to coral and it could be water chemistry.
