75g questions

I am only a day or so away from setting up my 75g and I was wondering if it would be okay to have base rock in the tank during the leak test, I was also wondering if it would be okay to use deer park spring water? thank you!

Spring water is probably fine. Are you using individual bottles of water??? How many will you have to use to fill up the tank??? I wouldn't put the base rock in during the leak test because it would just be a lot of work to pull it back out if there is a leak.

I would probably test the water for phostphates and nitrates before I used it. All that stuff usually is, is tap water unless it comes from a specific water source. Then who knows what's in it

I will, cant wait to get the new tank up, I just picked up 3 frags and one small colonie of zoas and 2 small pink birdsnest frags for cheap, hopefully everything lives!

moonstream It seems kinda premature to put livestock in your tank before you cycle it, doesnt it. I agree with kayne on checking for NO3 And PO4, I also dont see why you couldnt use any old spring water from the local piggly wiggly. According to some recent testing toilet water is cleaner then some of that "natural Spring water".

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I wouldn't use tap water. When I re-did my tank and used about 20 gallons of new spring water, all the nutrients in the water sparked a huge algae bloom. It's starting to die off now 4 months later. It's been a pain. I had diatoms for a good 3 months and now on the 4th month, thank goodness its cutting down and I only have some detritus and green hair algae. I advise to use ro water. If you dont have an RO unit try getting some distilled or RO water from the fish store.

We all learn the hard way, including me, so all I will say is BE CAREFUL.
