75g set up help - and new to ReefCentral

well here is a pick of the set up i am getting ready to install.

75 AGA with corner overflow
40gal sump/refugium
mag 9.5 return pump
coralife 125 super skimmer
2x150 MH ,4x96 T5, 3 blue led's (coralife)
i have two power heads as well for water movement
use purple up and some plankton for zoos and all but that is it, trying to keep it semi low maint (water changes ever week or so)

I have a 55 gal that i have had set up for about 2 years (some of the rocks i started 9 years ago in a 20 gal tank)
4 damsels (2 blue, 1 3 stripe, 1 yellow tail)
1 Manderin Dragonet
2 camel shrimp
two zoo colonies (one frag)
trying to save one frag that was touched
snails & crabs
just found a starfish and other various hitchikers

Need to get an RO/DI filter (but have wedding coming up soon)


the 75 is mainly a DIY sump/refugium and all, my first attempt. it holds water and hopefully is set up correctly. I am in the process of getting plans for a hood for the lights and eventually a top up system.

Looking for any hints, advice etc...


I set aside space to place Bio Balls in the sump, but the more i read i may not need them at all. any thoughts?

I don't have an ro/di filter yet either, but i've heard that The Filter Guys and melev's Reef ro/di filterts are good ones to get. What powerheads do you have. You will probably need more flow in the futur depending on the corals that you wish to keep.

ok hopefully the pics work now

i will have 2 200 or so gph flow powerheads

really i want fish and coral, eventually the damsels will probably kill one another or be given away (there has been peace too long) if they stay aggressive

otherwise probalby want some clowns, and a bunch more live rock, and some more zoos and maybe some other harder to care for stuff when i get more settled with the new tank.

should get the skimmer this weekend and test everthing out.

Hmm the pics still aren't working. I would definitely give away the damsels. The camel shrimp may also be problematic. Flow should be 30 - 40 times the tank volume. (2250 - 3000gph) What skimmer are you getting?

your going to need more power heads. check out the korillias a coupla number 2s or 3s should do you fine.

if you havent bought this stuff yet, swap that Mag for an Oceanrunner 2500, and dont waste your time on the purple up. You can probably do better with an Octopus skimmer
