785 Gallon Glass Reef Build in CT

picked up a new addition tonight. I was hesitant but Duss won't find a better home than an 800 gallon reef

Love your triggers. They really make the tank. Triggers are like the oscars of saltwater. Remind me of dogs. Your set up is beautiful by the way

I have been feeding about 8 frozen cubes per day. Nitrates are not zero but less than 5. I have only done one 50 gallon water change and tank has been running for almost 4 months

Added a few acro frags and a piece of alien pox cyphastria, cispitularia and punk birdsnest. I will try to get some pics later.

What are you parameters and have they changed at all over the past couple weeks? I've seen this before and it was from nutrients being a bit too high. Cut the tips and see if you can get the levels back down to near zero.

By nutrients, are you referring to nitrates only? I think they are less than 5, but I will test with another test kit. Mine is pretty old. Phosphates are 0.

I suppose it could be either. Honestly, I never test nutrients... I just monitor the algae growth and make tweaks accordingly. I only test Ca and Alk regularly... Mg rarely.

Didn't trust my old nitrate test kit so I took a water sample to LFS. Nitrates pushing 40-50....would help explain my green slimer new growth tips dying off. I went home and built a sulfur denitrator out of the old MTC skimmer that sits in the tank. Took the top off the skimmer collection cup, dropped a 7" mesh micron sock through the collection cup cylinder and filled it with a gallon of sulfur pellets. Using the gate valve, I can adjust the water to barely overflow into the collection cup and drain back into the tank. Collection Cup Is filled with argonite to increase pH as effluent flows back into the tank. I dosed 1/2 oz vodka every day for about 5 days so far. The first 2 days the tank got a bit cloudy but the corals look much better now....waiting on my new nitrate test kit to see how much the levels have dropped

Nitrates appear to be in the 10-20 range now....hope to get them back under 5 in a week or two. I have still only done one 50 gallon water change since setting the tank up in May.
