8 line flasher wrasse

Have seen either flash yet?

I still remember the sight of 20+ males in a LFS tank flashing away.........it was a cool site. It was also easy to tell which were the prettiest ones.

I lost my smaller one yesterday. She had been hiding in the rocks that last few days and not coming out to eat at all. Yesterday, I found her floating around, not able to swim much but was still breathing normal. I scooped her up and started to acclimate her to my quarantine tank but she didn't make it through the night.

The larger one seems to be going great, swimming around with the rest of the wrasses like she's been there forever.

Yes but not much color to the smaller one. The larger one flash more especially in front of the side glass which I assume is see its own reflection. I don't know if it's possible but seems to have deeper color than 2 days ago.

Sorry to hear that. Has it been in your tank for over a month now? If it has I wonder what went wrong? Did you treat them prazi? I didn't treat mine with anything since they been here. Strange thing is my labouti been in for over a month now the last 2 weeks started to exhibit bouyancy issue and the other 4 with 3 DOA and 1 DAA.

Mine actually seemed to have swimming bladder issues, as she couldn't swim upright when I got her. She had been eating fine with the other fish, it was just out of nowhere that she stopped eating and didn't come out of the rocks. The larger one is still doing well.

Ive been watching this thread from the beginning. I went in on the first buy on LA/DD with SDguy, but since we found out they were females we decided not to purchase. So this week i decided to go ahead and get a female in hopes she would change to male. As soon as I put her in the tank she hid. This morning I saw her pop her head out, and now she is swimming around, I saw her eat a tiny bit....

My small male from PIA is doing fine and eats like a pig. My terminal male I picked up shortly after the first one didn't make it past the first week. Beautiful fish all around!

We lost 2 terminal males - the first w/in 24 hours, the second w/in 48. Both arrived looking very healthy and were gorgeous specimens. We decided we would not try another male. Our trio of ladies is (thankfully) doing great and the largest female is already showing early signs of morphing.

prop-frags,

That's a great looking male. How long have you had this female to the time of that picture?

I wish my female was able to change that fast. I got my 2 females on 1/13 and here's a look:

So jealous of you guys. I'll be able to start buying fish again very soon, and 8 line is top of the list. Wish mine made it through the ich problem.

I have a terminal male paired with a female in my 210 and the male is a huge bully towards the other fairy wrasses in the tank, has anyone else experienced aggression issues with their 8 lines?

Mine's 'the new kid' in a tank of 30 wrasses...size-wise he's right in the middle of all of them...no problems (yet)!

Thought I would post my recent 8-line experience. Three weeks ago I received what I believe to be a female from PIA. Great fish, really friendly, ate flakes, pellets (a little big for her) and frozen right out of the shipping bag. The only problem was a small nick just above her left gill plate. Within two days it looked like it had a fungal infection. I tried treating her but after just over a week she quit eating in the morning and died that same afternoon. OK so I blame the infection and try for another one. PIA sends out a replacement and nice little male comes in yesterday. The water was warm and the fish was totally stressed out. After a careful acclimation I added him to the QT. A little while later I checked and saw that he was breathing fast and that he was really rigid, fins erect and stiff as a board. Long story short he was dead by the time I went to bed. I think that's it for me with the 8-lines.

I want to add that Kevin at PIA couldn't have been nicer to work with, great customer service. I probably shouldn't speak for him but in his email today he said that they were done with the 8-lines too. Just too frustrating.

First, sorry to hear about the 8-lines, thats unfortunate.

I have had the complete opposite experience lately. I got a beautiful male in from PIA yesterday and he's by far the best one I've seen out of the three others that came to my house. He wasn't stressed at all, and started swimming around the QT as soon as he was put in. He did find a spot to chill out for a while, but not breathing hard, just a new place I guess.

Later in the afternoon, he was swimming around like he's been there for months and ate the first time I fed anything. Today, he's eaten many times, even ate NLS pellets on top of PE Mysis, Rods Pacific Plankton today.

Your experience really sucks, but I thought I'd throw in some positive goodness in there as well :) For what its worth, I got a Jewel Leopard wrasse in the same shipment and he's doing just as well.
