I recently tore down my 180 DT, caught all my fish and started up a 90 gallon QT. I have been treating my fish w/ Cupramine at .5mg/l. (using more than 1 Seachem test kit) for 8+ weeks. I figured this was long enough to take care of any ich and other issues my fish have been suffering with on and off. I just removed the Cupramine via WC and carbon a few days ago.
BTW, my angels tolerated the Cu very well, including Majestic, flame, African flame back and Singapore angel.
After a few days w/ no meds, my Singapore started scratching, and I noticed that the cleaner wrasse was paying some attention to him. Also noticed a discolored spot on him. My Naso tang also has been violently thrashing his head from side to side at times. I am now thinking flukes, so I have begun Prazi at the recommended dose.
From what I have heard, I thought Cupramine would take care of the flukes. Maybe it just knocked them back to the point where they were not as "œinfectious", but they were still there and now there is no Cu to inhibit them, they are reproducing and causing havoc. I am very sure that these guys had flukes when they were in the DT, and I am pretty sure that is what killed my Blue Line angel. I had treated the DT w/ Prazi more than once.
My main question here is does this sound like flukes, or is this a resurgence of ich that has not been eradicated from the Cupramine?
I see no outward signs of ich on any fish so far.
Also, does Cupramine kill flukes?
I was looking forward to re-indroducing my fish to my newly "œsterile" DT, which has been fallow for 8+ weeks. I don't want to rush it and end up where I started. Breaking down the DT to catch fish is breaking me down.
Any ideas or comments are greatly appreciated.
