Anyone post some pics with this lense? I was thinking about getting it but i could put that $80 towards filters if not. and just wait awhile to get the 100mm 2.8.

Pixel-peeper.com is great to check out images from a particular lens.
I highly recommend getting the 50mm first (I have both). I was actually just talking about it today with somebody. It's definately the best bang-for-your-buck lens and you'll probably use it a lot more (if youre like me) than the 100mm due to its speed, size, and weight.

thanks that is exactly what i needed. not much of a macro lense... but for $80 it looks worth it.

$80 is absolutely worth it. Theres almost no reason NOT to get it unless if you can afford the f1.4 version.
If you only have the 18-55 kit lens, you'll be pleasantly surprised at its sharpness.

I have the 28-135mm IS at the moment... I plan on getting a Wide Angle lens next... can't decide between the 10-22cannon and the 10-20 sigma... or if the 17-40 cannon 'L' would provide me with a wide enough angle... but im leaning towards not.. ARG how do you choose! Since i saw the 1.8 50mm for 80... i can add that to my order without my wife even noticing... haha... :c).

My 2nd lens I got, not counting the kit lens, was the 10-22 (the first was the 50mm). It's r-e-a-l-l-y w-i-d-e and I'm totally glad I got it. Comes in handy all the time. That usually lives on the camera and I have the 50mm in my pocket.

Like you, I was boucing between deciding getting the 10-22 or the 17-40L. I decided to go with the 10-22 because I'm on a crop sensor. A friend of mine just picked up the 17-40L last week but I have yet to see his images. The benefit of the 17-40L is that its not ALL wide so its a tad more versatile. ...and to be honest, I was kinda afraid of getting an "L" lens and not want to settle for any other glass after that. Don't get me wrong, though. I had a hell of a time trying to decide. You probably wont be unhappy with either lens.

I also picked up a 75-300mm (old model, non-USM/IS) on Craigslist for $100. The worst piece of glass in my kit but I wanted a cheap telephoto lens to round out the collection until I can afford a decent lens. I figure this was cheap enough to fill my needs until then.

Oh, if youre looking for a bag to carry all your gear in, check Amazon. They have a very decent camera backpack from Canon for only $36.97 (free shipping!). "Canon Deluxe Photo Backpack 200EG for Canon EOS SLR Cameras (Black with Greenish Accent)" is what you want to look for. Search for "B00009R6TA". I just got one on Monday. The gf liked it so much, she wanted one for herself. That one is on it's way.

Same. It was also the second lens I picked up. They call it the "nifty fifty". Great for the price. The build is plasticky and cheap, but what do you expect? Image quality is great.

Also helps you to think on your feet when composing pictures, since it's a prime lens.

LOL..... There is a reason it is "plasticky and cheap" thats because it is both plastic and cheap, dont be surprised if one day it just falls in two pieces the barrel separates from the housing, but still its not bad for the money.:) :)

A 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 is a standard lens that every photographer should have in their bag. It's a cheap(1.8) and relatively cheap(f/1.4) lens that is very useful and effective.

It's also called the fantastic plastic.

aka the nifty fifty :) Awesome lens at the price point. It's a piece of equipment that every SLR owner should have.

it's not too bad, just don't use it wild open. Of course, everything is just relative. For the price, it's really not that bad.
