80g rimless Deep Blue build

Next up was aquascaping. Now I was really dreading this portion of the build as I am not a very artistic or creative person, but I think it came out awesome.

Playing with some ideas on the tabe

Close to final layout. 2 island theme.

Added sand

Added RODI to the sump and pumped it up to the tank.

RODI going in

Filled up and not to cloudy and started to add salt

Thats basically all for now. Tank is finally salty after about 8 months

Threw some fish food in one of the filter socks to kick start the cycle time to sit back and test water. Expecting the cycle to take a month or 2 :spin3:. Also as you can see in the last pic I skinned and painted the stand but didn't take any pics. Doors need one more coat of paint before installation.

Hope you all enjoyed the update going to try have keep this thread up to date now.

looks great! I'm about to do a basement sump build in the next two months... I can't wait! How do you like the flex plumbing vs. hard plumbing? What are your livestock stocking plans?

That's looking pretty great! I'm right around the same stage as you with my 80g build (https://www.instagram.com/nullreef/). I love that you plumbed into the basement. I wish I could do that, but no basements in Florida :/

Not having a nagging wife or girlfriend made it a really easy decision to cut a hole through my wall and 3 large holes in my floor lol also the unfinished side of my basement was right under the closet that that i drilled through

The flex pvc worked pretty well. The main reason I chose to use it was to cut down on glue joints and less possible leaks. I also wanted to avoid using 90s where I could have nice gradual bends to reduce head pressure. The 3/4 and 1 inch stuff was pretty easy to work with just used a heat gun to help make it easier to work with. However, the 1 1/2 inch flex pipe I used for my return line was very difficult to bend even after heating it up. I ended up having to use a bunch of 45 elbows to get it through the wall and through to floor. It was also pretty difficult to get good straight cuts. Overall I would use it again.

Heres a few pics of the sections going through the floor and wall

Don't really have a stocking list set in stone

Pair of clowns currently in QT

-flame angel possibly
-would love a white tail bristle tooth tang
-yasha goby/shrimp pair
-purple dottyback
-maybe some type of wrasse

It will be a mixed reef but that will be some time down the road. Taking it slow with this build

Tank has really cleared up today

Does anybody have a good way to raise the water level in the tank? It sits a good 2 inches below the rim

Looks good!
Mine runs about 1" below. I'd be afraid to go any higher due to my MP40's programming possibly sloshing water over the top.

I have the same tank, did yours come with the water level adjustment slide inside the overflow? If so just raise it. If all the way up and your water is still low, one at a time, you can block off one slot (tooth) in the overflow.

No mine didn't come with the adjustment piece as I bought this tank used. Wonder if I could pick one of those up somewhere

I'd start by contacting Deep Blue. Might score it for free.
But if not, cut a piece from a container top like what coffee comes since its black, then zip tie inside the overflow to cover a few slots. You can even do trial and error, cut a piece, use a few plastic clothes pins to hold in place till you fine tune it.

Thats a good idea. I was going to grab some thin black acrylic and then heat it and bend it into shape then silicone it on but I will see if i can get it from deep blue first

The coffee can cover is thin, so you can cut it with scissors and it will bend easy.

Use the zip ties, quick, easy, removable. I zip tied a piece of gutter guard to the front of mine to keep the smaller fish i.e. Neon Gobies out of the overflow.

I did exactly this used a milk jug however. Tried making it out of thin acrylic first but then broke it so gave up on that idea for now

Cycle is on its way. Its going pretty quick only been about 2 weeks and only a week since I added pure ammonia from ACE. Was originally adding fish food but wasn't detecting any ammonia.

Well I haven't updated this thread in awhile. Tank is up and running have a few corals now and every thing is doing well.

Setting up a 40 gallon refugium and hope to have that going in a few weeks.

Just bought an AP700 off of eBay for $690 shipped. Was going to pick up 2 ecotech gen 3's for 800 from a local LFS. Hope I don't regret my decision.
