85 Gallons SPS Tank

SPS and LPS are pale maybe it cause of the lamp is just 4'' above the water.
Now,I try to open only 6 tube for 9 hours.

1 Yellow tang
1 Flame angel
1 Clown fish
1 Sixline
2 Cleaner Shrimp

Clean Filter sock and skimmer cup every other day.
Oyster eggs twice a week, and C-Balance 10ml-15ml once a week

Need suggestions to get their color back.

Thank you

You could be starving your corals. Too clean of a system. Do you test your phosphates and Nitrates? Its a balancing act, I know you don't want to have 0.00. Try feeding your fish more. It may not be the lights, you can try to raise it up another 4 inches so its 8 inches above the water. Also what is your alkalinity? You had a big swing in calcium. Try to keep to the basics. You have a great light, great skimmer, great flow. Just keep the system stable parameter wise (Calcium, Alkalinity, and Mg (if needed)) one week at a time. 10% water changes on a regular basis helps too.Good Luck.

Hi rowdy29can,

My water parameter

Ca 420-440
Mg 1290
KH 10.5-11.2 (swing in this range)

I didn't test for NO3 and PO4

Do you think KH is to high? or big swing in calcium or alkalinity? what should i do to low the alkalinity down to 7-8 (near NSW) without lowing the salinity.

normally I feed once a day, I'll try to feed twice a day and Oyster eggs twice a week.

Thank you for your suggestions

Best regards

K.Boy

You should decease Kh to 7-7.7 is better.

Hi, legky

I'm try to low KH down to 7-8.

Water Change would be the best way to lower it.

but when i mixed salt(Aquaraise) with RO water, i've got KH 10.2 (Salifert).

My SPS tank never had a problem of decreasing in alkalinity since it's start.

I'll change from Aquraise to H2O in the next Water change.

Thank you.

Although you change to H2O but KH still high too. But you can solve problem about Kh even H2O or Aq by mixed salt with RO more than 12hr before change.

I always mixed salt more than 24 hours before do WC,this doesn't help.

Thank you.

Just another thought, what salt are you using for your ongoing H20 changes? Test the next batch you make for Ca, Kh, Mg, Phos and see what you get. I have heard of reefers getting a bad batch from time to time and not even think it is the Salt they are using is the cause of there ongoing problems. Also i agree get your Alkalinity down, i have mine between 8 and 9 and that is the range i find most success with SPS. Good Luck.

Sweet tank. Also keep in mind that you should mix your dry salt before using it. Often salt mixes are heterogeneous (not evenly mixed).
