9.2 Gallon Rimless Build

Hello all,

I decided to share the progress I've made on what used to be an Eheim Aquastyle 35. I loved the original tank, but the factory lighting and filter were not ideal. I ditched the original in-tank filter and decided to use a Subcurrent internal filter. I was disappointed in its performance and also displeased with topping off my tank two times a day. I am a college student and I live relatively close to home, so I like the option of visiting my family over the weekend and the Subcurrent really didn't allow me to do so. I ended up purchasing the 14,000K 8W Clamp Light by Innovative Marine, which I have been pleased with and has supported coral growth for the past few months.

Here are some older pictures of the tank and inhabitants:

As of now it is stocked with:
-6 red legged hermits
-1 turbo snail
-2 peppermint shrimp
-1 purple firefish goby
-pocillipora damicornis
-montipora
-green star polyps
-glove polyps (hitchhiker)

I decided against swapping the Subcurrent for a power filter or canister filter and I chose to incorporate a sump into my system. My rationale was that I wanted to increase stability with increased water volume and add a simple gravity fed auto-topoff; these would both allow me to have the confidence to go home for weekends and not worry about my tank. The tank was too thin for me to drill with confidence, so I had a local glass shop cut, drill, and temper a new 1/4" back panel.

I got everything moved to a temporary tank:

And construction began:

It was quite difficult to find a sump to fit into my stand, which has a very small foot print. I found acrylic display cubes online, and one had perfect dimensions for my purpose. I purchased it, reinforced portions of it with 1/4" acrylic and leak tested it for a week with no issues. We'll see how that ends up....

I hope to have the tank back up and running Saturday evening! Unforunately I think I'm starting to enjoy my temporary tank aquascape more than my original, which is not a good sign....

Hey nice, ATO System, I actually have the same one.

How accurate do you think it can top off our water with? Currently I am thinking that our ATO System does not drain enough water into the tank, and evap is greater than what is draining into the system. What do you thing? First time you have used it or?

I have not used the Eshopps float valve before. I have used the Kent Marine float switches on a gravity fed system with great results. They hold the water level very constant and I'm hoping that the Eshopps system will do the same. I will let you know how it works out for me.

great thanks I will subscribe to this form.

Ya, I made an adjustment today and checked my Salt before I left. Tonight when I get back I will check my salt level again to see if it changed as much as yesterday.

Wow awesome little sump, looks like you're definitely using all your space very wisely. What are the dimensions of the tank/stand/sump? I have a 12" AIO cube I'm thinking about adding a sump to.

Sweet man, like what you've done with everything. I have a 35L Aquastyle too, my system isn't quite as involved as yours. I am depending on my live rock and the stock filter running Seagel as my filtration. Keep it up man.
