Hello all,
I decided to share the progress I've made on what used to be an Eheim Aquastyle 35. I loved the original tank, but the factory lighting and filter were not ideal. I ditched the original in-tank filter and decided to use a Subcurrent internal filter. I was disappointed in its performance and also displeased with topping off my tank two times a day. I am a college student and I live relatively close to home, so I like the option of visiting my family over the weekend and the Subcurrent really didn't allow me to do so. I ended up purchasing the 14,000K 8W Clamp Light by Innovative Marine, which I have been pleased with and has supported coral growth for the past few months.
Here are some older pictures of the tank and inhabitants:
As of now it is stocked with:
-6 red legged hermits
-1 turbo snail
-2 peppermint shrimp
-1 purple firefish goby
-pocillipora damicornis
-montipora
-green star polyps
-glove polyps (hitchhiker)
A picture from earlier today:
I decided against swapping the Subcurrent for a power filter or canister filter and I chose to incorporate a sump into my system. My rationale was that I wanted to increase stability with increased water volume and add a simple gravity fed auto-topoff; these would both allow me to have the confidence to go home for weekends and not worry about my tank. The tank was too thin for me to drill with confidence, so I had a local glass shop cut, drill, and temper a new 1/4" back panel.
I got everything moved to a temporary tank:
And construction began:
