Just use a small pump. The feed pump Im using is a ViaAqua 480. I just tapped a 1/8 MPT John Guest fitting on the outlet. Works like a champ.
I have a Rio 600 in a box but I dont' see that it has a minimum flow like the Vista. Will that work or is it too much?

That could works Tim. Not exactly sure what that pump is rated for. The feed pump I have is only rated for 200 gph. As long as you can attach the feed line to the reactor to the pump, it will work.

Well the CaRx is finally leak proof after three tries, what a pain in the a$$ to drain that thing.

I got the rock cooking also. I put my old skimmer in there with 3 power heads. I may add a fourth since I have it.

Tim let me check my little pumps, I have a bunch and probably have one that will be perfect for you. Without having to put a RIO on your tank and then wonder if its going to fail and dump oil in your tank.

Rio's have oil in them????

I think all the little cheapies have oil in them. Its one of the reasons why people liked the magnetic drive external pumps when they came out cause theres no worry of oil leaking out.
Now I have never seen it or known anyone that had it happen, but I guess it's always possible.
Seriously though you have an aqualifter why not just use it????
If marine depot recommends it and the reactor pump is below the water level I cant see why it wouldn't work. I use the gravity method and mine is consistent.

I am using the aqua lifter now. I couldn't get a consistant flow without it. I have the Rio's cooking the rock.

I use to keep a running tally on the number of direct reports (not "my buddy" but "My tank crashed...") I had read, about RIO's nuking reef tanks. The usual story was the pump froze, over heated and ruptured, releasing smoke, oil and other nasty stuff.
You will never see a RIO in my tank, and I am still leary of SEIO's (but I haven't heard of it happening with a SEIO).

I didn't know you are having consistency problems Tim.
I have a feeling its fine you just have never had a reactor and aren't sure how it works I'm guessing.
You don't have to have precisely the exact same amount of water dropping out every second. I mean if it is starting and stopping then that's a problem but just don't expect it to be a perfectly metered amount,it isn't that crucial.

I have to tweak mine once in a while but it should run itself with no adjustments for a few days at least.
Let it break in, turn on the CO2 and let it run for a bit and let me know what happens.

Ahhh! The joys and headaches of setting up a reactor for the first time. Just start slow Tim. Start at around 30 bubbles a minute with the effluent dripping at around a drop per sec. Check your alk and ca after 48 hrs and adjust from there if needed. Just to give you an idea, on my 90, 75 BPM and a drip rate at around 2 drops per sec.

I got up this morning and saw that the little Berlin Skimmer was hard at work. I had to open a window because it was kinda stinky.

A few weeks ago Chris told me about these quick disconnects that Big R sells in Falcon out by his house. We went out there a couple weeks ago and I bought a couple sets and a plug with my drain from the 125 in mind. These thing are really cool, insert male end into female end pull down both levers and it cams them together against a thick rubber washer and you're water tight.

I needed to make the connection from the ball valve I plumbed under the tank to the house drain pipe in the laundry room. To do this I needed to add a Wye fitting under the clean out fitting already there.

I glued up the new pieces,

cut out the old section,

and put in the new section.

I then glued up my 10 ft long section of spa flex to the other quick disconnects and tried it out.

Yeah I think I'm going to like this, no more hauling 5 gal. buckets to the toilet.

Dude, you're going to love it!
Water changes are about as hard as feeding for me now.
It's too bad the dang tank doesn't back to the mech room so you wouldn't have to hook up that hose, but I think it will be so easy you are going to actually look forward to water changes............at least for a while.

That's sweet. Is that plumbed directly to the bottom of the display? If so, how do you measure/gauge how much water you drained for the water change?

Yes, I dropped a T off of the main 2 inch pipe running the length of the tank then a 90 degree elbow to a true union right behind of the right hand door. When I open the door and hook up the pipe i can see the sump which will have a mark at 55 gal. and a mark at 25 gal. I'll just keep the ball valve open until the sump drops 30 gal and then open the valve from the mixing reservoir and let 30 gal of new water back into the sump.

I figure with that ball valve being the lowest point in the plumbing and the path of least resistance I should be able to pump out 30 gal. in no time at all. I'll time it and post it here when I do my first one.

Very nice. I figured it was marked in a compartment somewhere in the sump, but just wanted to get some ideas. You'll probably be beside yourself not having to swish and slosh the 5 gallon bucket 6 times to the toilet for a 30 gallon WC. :)

Yep, I like to work smarter not harder.

Chris, how often do you do water changes? And, how many gallons? At 10%, you're looking at ~60+ gallons. You could start a newbie's system up with that!

I think he does do 60 a week. Hummmm, maybe I'll fill the 90 with some of Christo's aqua magic.

How bad or good do you think 60 gal of saltwater from a 600 gal system would be if it was used to fill up another system. If anything it would save on the cost of salt. Any thoughts on this.
