90 Gallon Flow

I was wondering if these powerheads would be enough flow to keep sps in a 90 gallon aquarium. (48x18x24)

2 Tunze Nanostream® 6025 (660 US gal./h) and
2 Tunze Nanostream® 6045 (1,189 US gal./h)

I would have the bigger ones on either end of the tank, and then use the smaller ones to get rid of dead spots. Do you think these would work?

Thanks, Charlie

I think that would be more than enough for keeping anything you wanted. You may need to dial them back abit for LPS and some softies, SPS would love it as long as they aren't getting hit directly.

What do you intend on keeping in the long run?

I would be hoping to keep mainly sps, some lps, and maybe some ricorda (don't know how to spell it) mushrooms. What would you recommend for flow otherwise? My budget for flow is only around $300 though. I also want to house a RBTA.

I think those listed would be fine, personally I would want less visable in the tank, so Vortechs would be the way I would go. From what I've read and seen on some local tanks they are phenomenal.

1 MP10es would be a great start for your tank, and you can add a second one as your tanks flow demands increase.

As I'm going into high school, the Vortechs are currently out of the question because of price. Also, I've heard they're loud and its going into my bedroom.

The noise typically come from them not being properly aligned, and you can get 1 for $235. They are also good because they because the randomize the flow in the tank.

Either way the nano-streams would be fine if thats the route you'd rather go. You could put each pump on a timer to help with randomizing the flow.

I was going to use a Neptune Aquacontroller for the flow, auto topoff, heaters, etc. So I think that I will go with the tunze.

I'm in high school too and I have a 90 and I think I'm going to buy a MP40. I know they are super expensive but I have learned that if you try to go the cheaper way it doesn't end up the way you want it to and you ending up spending the money anyway... Don't go with a MP10 since I have heard it's too underpowered. I just suggest one MP40 and forget the Neptune

Im planning a 90 gallon now. I plan on using 1 MP40 and the JBJ Oceanstream with 2 1600 gph powerheads and controller to create very random flow in the tank.

Might wanna check those powerheads out.

If you've got 300 to spend on all those powerheads, I'd seriously consider just going with an MP40 to start. You can add more later as needed, but one MP40 will surprise you with it's flow. Also takes up a LOT less tank space.

Im gonna use all of those in my tank.

To the OP, I would check the hardware section on here for a used MP40. Lost of deals on here come and go for stuff.

I was just going with the tunze because I have heard they are quiet and reliable. I was going with the Apex because it would be able to regulate heat, auto top-off, and randomize flow. I also wanted it incase I go out of town, I want it to be as automated as possible and not worry about some things going wrong. On the other hand, if I can find an MP40es for around 300, I'll be all over it.

The vortechs are also very quiet and VERY reliable. They also have the advantange of having randomized programs built in. Just switch to one of the automated modes and let it do its thing.

But at the moment they are just way too expensive for me unless I can get a really good deal.

then save up... you will most likely end up buying one later on like I am doing and it sucks since I didn't just buy one from the beginning. This hobby isn't really for kids like you and I who are in high school since it's stupidly expensive :( I highly suggest since I was where you are to plan it out a whole lot and go with good equipment in the first place since I figured I could get away with going the cheaper route and now I have all new equipment because of it. And what looks better, 4 tunzes or just one vortechthat works just as well and is already fully controllable
