900 Gallon Build

Hi,
I have large system I am building. I have a few questions I need help answering please.

My first question is regarding baffle placement in a sump.

My second question is regarding PVC and finding metric to US converting fittings(if they even exist)

The sump is huge being over 300 gallons. I want to have three sections, on one end is the skimmer, in the middle is the macro algae refugium and on the other end is the return pump. Can anyone tell me how high I should place my baffles? The skimmer sits in the sump so I could always raise it if I needed to. I guess the height they stopped at would also have to do with how much water is being returned in the case the system had a power failure because I would not want it to flood. The dimensions of the sump are 72"x31.5"x30.5" The return pump is external so essentially the macro algae refugium section would be very large. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for the help.

My second concern is that the main tank which is 500 gallons was already custom built from China. It is 70" long and is basically a wall dividing some rooms. On each end of the tank is hole drilled in the bottom, one for return and one for overflow. The bulkhead and pvc that came custom with this tank and built for the overflow and return are of Metric measurement. The problem is that the pipes go vertical almost to the top of the tank and at the bottom of them they screw into a bulkhead. All these parts are of metric measurement and to finish the plumbing below the main tank and through the floor to the sump I need to convert or find metric pvc. It would be easiest for me If I could find a metric to US converting piece of pvc. I have not done too much searching yet but if anyone has any ideas I really appreciate the help. If I cannot find pieces to work with I could either find a place to purchase all Metric pac parts or I could redesign the return and overflow myself using all US measured pvc.

Thanks everyone who took the time to read this sorry its long and maybe confusing.

What about rubber couplings? That may allow a little leeway. Just secure it well with hangers on any horizontal runs so the vertical run doesn't seperate the rubber coupling

Flexpvc.com has metric to English adaptors. Be aware that the metric pipe comes in 2 different dimensions DIN and JIS - Not sure what the difference is but a 40 JIS and 40 DIN are totally different sizes. Do yourself a favor and get a calipers and measure the exact sizes of the plumbing you need to attach to so you get the right pieces the first time.

Have you checked the two bulkhead holes? Perhaps a US bulkhead would fit then you can use off the shelf parts for it all.

I would NOT like my system to depend on one hard to find part!

Thanks. going to get a caliper and really figure this out now. I found adapters on BRS.com so i ordered those but I am not sure if they will work. Thanks to everyone for helping.
