9002 and nanocube 24

Dear Roger,

I bought a 9002 a few months back and found that, while the skimmer body fits just fine in compartment 2 of the 24g nanocube DX, the collection cup does not. Is there any chance that Tunze will make a rectangular shaped cup to enable this skimmer to be used in this type of tank? Or do I have to DYI it?

thanks,

Bruce

We likely will make a sort of drain tube in the future but this is not likely to happen within a year. We just have to much on the drawing board at this time but it is something we have been discussing.

thanks for your reply.

It doesn't so much need a drain tube as it does the cup to be rectangular in shape so that it fits into the space. Alternatively, a smaller cup would work but this would severely impact the capacity. Sounds like DIY will be required

That is the problem, capacity. So we would likely make a rectangular box with a drain.

That would be perfect. You will make a lot of owners of this sized tank very happy with that mod. The skimmer itself works very well....

As I said though, it is probably a year away. I have a few projects ahead of that one and I doubt anyone at Tunze France or Germany will have the time to prototype it.

I have been thinking the same thing aswell. My collection cup kinda obscures my lighting which is anoying and the square cup seems to bee the answer i may well put my collection cup in the oven this weekend and see if i can make it a little rectangled. Will have to see what the plastic is like first, and can you buy collection cups incase this goes pear shaped.

Yes, and Mr Tunze is already working on new collection cups for the 9002, I got this bumped up in priority and we are playing with a new shorter design now but I am not sure when it will be ready, it still has a lot of work to be done with testing and redesign.

As I said, don't expect anything more until next spring, it takes a lot of time to test and refine something like this. We continue to make progress but shortening the cup has resulted in more watery skimmate and some design changes and refinement are necessary, we are on our third redesign and we need to test that and see if it will work as well as the current design in performance.
