looking for a small skimmer for a small tank... do you all like this one? is it worth the money? would you buy another one? i dont have a sump and dont really want one these things mount to tank by magnet right?

Hi. I used to have a Coralife PS and the thing sucked. Tried everything to eliminate micro bubbles but when this was accomplished would flood my living room.
I then went and purchased a Nano 9002 and put it INSIDE my 29 gallon tank. I have since moved to a 50 gallon tank with a refugium/sump. Keep in mind that the Tunze will need a pretty even level of water height to work properly. Use some type of auto top off, lots of DIY ideas around. I saved my cake and bought the Tunze osmolator. What I will say is that with 75 gallons total now that little sucker is performing great. For the money you can push these things beyond their rated capacity and performance is there. When I move up the next level it will only be a Tunze. I will DIM on a few things, but protein skimming is critical. There are some things you don't skimp on.
Hope this is of some help.

I wish I have a had the same success that onecansay has had , I have a 33 gallon with two black perculas and three damsels and two other fish and I have not ever got a full cup of skimmate. So am I doing something wrong or do I not have enough bio load. The level may be the reason I guess I will put a auto fill on that tank also. Good luck PS over a year now I have that skimmer.

Moondog, your skimmer is no doubt working. Yes, water level consistency is an issue, but try not to expect the full cup of skim
even with problem solved. ;) .As soon as the inner tube becomes soiled clean it out. I clean mine every 2-3 days. The inner tube is my bell weather. I do not have fish but I do know when something is up (when introducing creatures to tank or algae growth is attempting to rear ugly head) that the color of the skim gets darker. Once tank is balanced a less dark skim is all I get. Even rock and Coralline will produce waste. Keep your water moving well, eliminating those dead spots. I have found this to be one of the most important aspects of a clear tank. Algae control is easy cause there is no crap hanging around for them to feed on. Hope this is of some help.

Thanks for the reply I have moved the skimmer to my 120 gallon reef with a good bio load. It has taken two days to dial it in. It has a stable water level good water circulation. I also shut off my euro reef skimmer so it doesn't rob any of the skimmate. So I will post it's progress.

So far I have a full cup of a very light color skimmate kinda of like week tea. I dump it out daily but nothing dark and ugly
