9002 noise problem

Hello Roger,

I finally set up my Reefpak 200

The 9002 skimmer is making some noise.

Not a lot of noise, but a constant low-pitched hum which is getting to me.

I bought this online and didn't get a chance to check it out in person in a store. However all the other Tunze skimmers I have looked at in stores have been 100% dead silent.

I am wondering if I have the thing set up wrong. When I first got it the bottom side of the case was loose and I ended up taking it apart and putting it back together again, I wonder if I put it together wrong somehow. Is is producing foam already after running overnight.

The instructions aren't very clear about how things are supposed to fit together inside. Is there a diagram somewhere that I can check? And do you have any tips about silencing this thing?

The filter side of the Reefpak is almost inaudible, I thought it was the same type of pump on both sides, so I am thinking there must be something wrong if the skimmer side of the Reefpak is making a hum.

The pump is the same. I might try running the pump outside the skimmer to see if it is the pump or the way it is installed and we can take it from there.

OK as far as I can tell it is the pump vibrating against the plastic body of the skimmer. I took it apart and put it back together and the noise is half as loud but still there. When I get home I will try running the pump outside the skimmer.

I am not sure how to route the electric cord for the skimmer pump. The cord comes off one side of the pump facing the front of the skimmer, it needs to exit the hole at the back of the skimmer. Routing the cord beside the pump jams the pump against the wall of the skimmer, I think that is why it is making noise. I tried to route the cord above the pump and then back down behind it but it won't work.

It should go above the pump. There is a hook to support the cable, from there it goes through the V notch in the bottom of the baffle plate and then out the rubber grommet.
