looking to get a 9002 and install it in a 10 gallon sump, I was wanting to know if the bottom of the skimmer can sit on the bottom of the tank. Also what are the dimensions of the body of the skimmer, and the recommended water line from the bottom of the skimmer?

Yes, it should be submerged 7.5-8" The body measures 4.9 by 2.1 by 13.3, that includes the height of the cup.

thanks, how does water inter it? can it rest on it's base?

Yes,it works on diffusion, there is an "contact" slot in the back, once it is full no water enters or exits, proteins and other organics diffuse in by osmosis.
