9005 not working

Roger,
I recently bought a used 9005 off this board. I installed it in my sump. It looked like it was making lots of bubbles but not much skimmate. I raised it a couple of inches as I thought maybe it was in too much water about 10 inches. It sounded like it was working better but I only got skimmate when I forgot to turn it off and dosed the tank with amino acids. I know there is a lot to be skimmed out as I also have a AquaC remora pro still hanging on the main tank and it is pulling out a fair amount of skimmate. Any idea what could be the problem? The skimmer looked clean when I got it. There was a lot of flow going into the pump but not much foam except when I dosed with the amino acids. Thanks.

Make sure that the pump output is installed in the jet pipe, the clear pipe inside the skimmer. The air adjustment screw should be open about 4 full turns. Every day open it about 1/2 turn more until you get skimming. Running two skimmers is always difficult, depending on design they preferentially remove certain compounds and what they miss will be changed by interaction with air and the reactions within the other skimmer. I would just run one skimmer.

Thanks for replying. A few days later, the pump on the skimmer just stopped working. I have taken it apart and soaked the pump in vinegar but the pump still is not working. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

Does it hum, vibrate or give any signs that it is getting power?

At one point it did, but now it doesn't.

I would prefer to just get the complete pump including the venturi nozzle.
