9006 or 9002?

I currently have a Tunze 9006 skimmer on my 55g tank with about 10g sump. I bought the 9006 unit because I was worried about the 9002 keeping up with my system. The 9006 works great with the sump kit and creates a lot of bubbles.

That said, I noticed that my skimmer does not consistantly have a foam up to the top of the neck. It has been setup for 4 months with minimal down time. It does pull skimmate, but in small amounts and very light colored. My tank has 5 fish and many LPS/SPS that I feed.

My question is whether or not to change to a 9002. It seems like this might better meet my needs and will keep a more consistant foam. Suggestions?

Are you sure the 9006 is working optimally? Water should always be exiting the pipe, if it is not, this can result in poor performance. I don't really see a reason to change and if I was going to change I would wait a few months for the 9004, it will be somewhere between the two in performance and a better fit for your system, the 9002 would be underpowered.

Thank you for the info on the 9004. Sounds like a good option.

I cleaned the skimmer cup and noticed that it wasn't making bubbles. The pump was working, but I hadn't checked the inlet for over a month. It was almost completely clogged with chaeto. I took the skimmer out and cleaned that section of my sump. Now the detritus/algae is gone and the skimmer almost immediately started a nice foam. I will clean the unit first next time.

And thank you for your prompt response.
