9010/9015 skimmer questions

Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m interested in the 9010 or 9015 and had a few questions after reviewing some of the other threads. If anyone can help, thank you.

1. What is the distance from the back of the skimmer to the front if you include the output pipe for in-sump use?

2. The specs say that one side (of the footprint) is .5 in. bigger than the other side. Does that represent the actual box dimensions or does that also include the hanging attachment on the back?

3. What are the options for in-tank hanging? In glass as well as acrylic, please.

4. Is there a way to run the skimmer without the pipe outlet but at 100% fresh water intake?

5. What is the distance from the highest blue water line (maximum submersion) to the bottom of the collection cup when the cup is sitting as it would while it is skimming?

1) I am not sure, if you have 7" of room, you have plenty of room, maybe a member could measure for us. The ones I am using do not have the pipe attached.

2) Those are actual box dimensions without the hardware.

3) No option on acrylic, any perimeter braced tank for that matter as the cup won't clear the bracing. You can use the included holders or a magnet holder on a standard glass tank.

4) Yes, but it makes quite a few micro bubbles and it requires a constant 10" water level, that is exactly how mine is set up. It works fine in a sump but I don't recommend it in tank.

5) ? I am not clear what you are asking. Do you want to know the height of the cup over the water line? Or the length of the riser tube that is inside the skimmer body?

sorry about the confusion on #5. I'm asking the about the height of the cup over the water line, but specifically the height from the line to the bottom of the cup rather than the top of the cup.

Do you know (roughly) what the diameter is of the collection cup is?

Also, I saw on a previous thread you said the main difference between the 9010 and 9015 was the collection chamber size and the resulting wet vs dry skimmate. Would then adding the extraction unit to the 9010 make it as 'effective' as the 9015?

I think the 9010 with the extraction tube is better than the 9015, it is just a bit shorter so you can wet skim if you wish.

Cup Diameter is a hair under 6.25" with the lid.

The distance from water line to bottom of cup is about 1.75"

Just to clarify, do you think the actual skimmate production is 'better' with the 9010 using the extraction tube vs. the 9015 with standard collection cup? or are you saying that you think the 9010 (with extraction tube) is better than the 9015 (with standard cup only) because of the additional option of wet skimming (with the shorter standard 9010 cup)?

Sorry if I'm splitting hairs here...just want to make sure I understand what I can before buying.

Most likely I will use the extraction unit regardless of if I buy the 9010 or 9015, so it seems like getting the 9010 is a 'no-brainer'...does that sound right?

Probably just the wetter skimmate gives the impression more is removed.

Yes, get the 9010 is you are going to get the foam extractor, the 9010 and 9015 only differ in the cup.
