9010 and 9015 Skimming capabilities

Why is the 9015 rated to skim a larger volume of water than the 9010? Both units have the same water throughput 317gph, air capacity 171gph, and power consumption 21-watts (which I assume means they are using the same pump). does the 2 inch larger reaction chamber on the 9015 really allow it to skim 132 more gallons of water volume as effectively as the 9010 (this is of course with all variable being equal) or am i missing something.

They have the same maximum capacity for air flow but you can only use about half that capacity on the 9010, if the air screw is completely open on a 9010 you would basically just collect water.

Thanks Roger. Well I have you what are your thoughts on a 9010 for a 75 gallon bare bottom sps application? Do you think it would be enough or should I look more towards the 9015?

In my opinion the best upgrade is the 9020.14 foam extractor. It is just a tad shorter than the 9015 cup so you can use max airflow and still skim slightly wet. You need to have room the for a reservoir to collect the skimmate since it just drains it into a bucket.
