9010 help

I am playing with my skimmer and it has been skimming well. My problem is the collection cup. It is so big...This is on my 2nd tank and I have a 48" nova extreme pro on a 90 gallon. My lights are practically flush with the front of my tank, because this collection cup is completely in the way. Any options?? Would the 9020 extraction unit allow for my lights to scoot back some? Is there a different collection cup that can be used with this skimmer that won't affect performance? I can always hang the lights, but the collection cup would still be hogging quite bit of light. Please help

I had this problem when I was playing w/ skimmers on my 55 tall reef tank at the time. I had my 9010 on my tank for a little bit and had a problem b/c the halides w/ the factory legs had to be pushed all the way to the front of the tank b/c of the skimmer.

If your handy ,I went to Home Depot and kind of built my own canopy using oak trim and oak chair legs for the 4 posts. They had everything there to build the canopy. Think I spent around 68 bucks for everything. After the canopy was built it stood about 15 inches off of the top of the tank. That way I was able to not only put my halides on top but another set of power compacts w/ it. and when changing the collection cup I had enough clearance to pull the cup out.

Just an idea.

Thanks for the tip kalfsbeckj, but I am really curious about a different cup such as the 9020 extraction. Will it sit lower than the current cup and would the angle of the cup allow for the lights to go back further

The 9020 foam extractor is about the same diameter as the center tube in the cup, a bit larger it fits snug in the opening for the cup. This would give you about 1.5-2" more width.
