9010 in sump and TONS of microbubbles

The title says it all. There are no baffles in the sump. The skimmer has been running for 1 week. Any tips to get this thing running right, or do I need to find another skimmer?

E.J. Coral,

You may need to give it a little longer as these skimmers do release some micro bubbles in the first couple of weeks, also eliminate bubbles from all other sources and run the skimmer for a time without any other return pumps or other potential sources to double check microbubbles are not coming from another appliance.

Graeme

The source of the bubbles is definetly the skimmer. The tank has been running for a while and when i turn off the skimmer, they go away.

I took it appart to see if I screwed up. I found that the piece that coneccts the pump to the skimmer, the little couple with the hole for the air tubing, was cracked. Could this be the problem?

Yes this is not right, you will need to PM Roger for a replacement as I am in Australia not much help to you regards parts. Roger will be able replace this for you when he returns from Europe in about a weeks time.

No more bubbles, becuase the skimmer just died.

I wish i could shrink my Euroreef to fit my sump, becuase for half the money it is twice the skimmer:(

E.J. Coral,

I hear your frustration, the 9010 does work very well. What has happened has the pump failed?
I know of many people and stores that run this model with great success this issue can be resolved.

Regards
Graeme

Yes. The pump failed. I appologize for the harsh words. The 9010 skims better than the ER RS80 that I own,but the ER never failed on me.... The TUNZE that I recieved had two problems!!!

I know that the skimmer does a great job skimming, but it needs to run to do a great job!!!

The worst part is that Marine Depot refuses to refund or replace it despite the fact that I purchased it less than two weeks ago.

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with a resolution I am not sure on what the warranty policy is between stores and Tunze USA. Roger usually does most warranty work direct so it may be the case that with him away you have a delay.
If you have not already done so please PM Roger for a speedy resolution on his return.

Regards
Graeme

Gotta love the fact that my GSPs didn't open today:(

Are you saying that you Green Star Polyps didn't open because you don't have a skimmer working for a few days? If so,many people including myself have never ran a skimmer. I don't recommended it, i have one for my new tank. GSP are very hardy, and i have seen outstanding skimmerless tanks too.

The current system was not set up for skimmerless operation. I used to have a ER which I can no longer use easilty due to space constraints. Skimming is my only source of nutrient export. Running skimmerles and having your skimmer die are two very different things.!!I don't know if the GSPs aren't opening due to the loss of the skimmer, but one can speculate.

What is your setup like? How often do you do waterchanges? How much sand? How much rock? What type of inhabitants? Grow algae? Water volume? on and on ....

EJ, shoot me a PM if you haven't already and I will send a new pump.

I PM'd you. I hope that we can get this thing to work consistently without bubbles, because it skims like a champ when it is running.... Thanks.
