The pump on my 9010 seems to have seized up and I am having trouble getting the drive shaft out. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. It is probably calcium buildup so if I can remove the shaft, I am sure I can fix the problem.
That did the trick! I really had to pull hard on the impeller but it came out. It was really crusted with calcium but after an acid soak it was clean and the skimmer is now working great. I probably need to do this about once a month or so to prevent it from freezing up, huh?
Typically this only needs to be done every 3-6 months. Do not use anything stronger than vinegar or citric acid to clean the pump as the plastic will swell causing calcium to build up even faster since the clearance is reduced. It may need to be cleaned more frequently if the skimmer is near the effluent of a calcium or kalkwasser reactor or if the calcium or KH is very high.
