9010 Skimmer Question

I just purchased a 9010 skimmer for use in my 30gal sump for my 90gal display. The water level in the skimmer section of my sump is 10" deep, so mounting the skimmer on the side of my sump with the mounting kit would leave the water level about 1" below the blue line.

Does anyone know if this is an issue, or whether the skimmer can operate effectively like this?

Would there be any advantage to mounting the skimmer on the side of the sump vs. using the output tube and sponge and just putting the skimmer in the middle of the sump? If there is no advantage, I guess there is no point in mounting the skimmer if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The skimmer is slightly stronger with the pipe, when used in tank a portion of the water is recirculated. If you use it in the in tank format the water should be no more than 1" from the line but less distance would definitely be better.

Thanks Roger, I guess I'll just leave it as is with the output pipe and sponge. Seems unecessary to mount it in the sump if I don't have to.
