9010 stopped working

My 9010 stopped working after just 1 week. I was getting good foam production and skimmate before today. It stopped making bubbles and is now making a noise like it is running dry, however it is still pumping water. Also the top of the skimmer body will not stay on and pops off with the slightest amount of pressure. Any suggestions???
 
With regards to the pump, pull the impeller assembly out and check for two things, either a loose bush bearing (collar around the hole, part 3000.62 in the manual or on our website). Check for any ridge or defect inside the pump.

As for the cover, it clicks in place with five tabs. There are 2 in the back and 3 in the front. You will press it down right in front of the front and back plates and slide it back. The fifth center tab clicks in place behind the front wall of the skimmer, you need to reinforce this front wall plate with your finger (push out) while you slide the plate back. It will click in solidly then.

Let me know what you find. The removable top plate was added a few months back to make cleaning and servicing easier. I can send you whatever you need.
 
I just took apart the pump and reassembled it,and it worked fine in freshwater. The impeller came out in 3 pieces? The impeller part, a red oring, and then a little disk. I put everything back together and it worked fine for a minute, then it stopped working. I took it all back apart, did the same thing and it was working, so I tried putting it back in, and it did not work.

For the housing, I did not notice that little 5th tab. Once I got that one hooked, it seems to stay on better.
 
So it runs fine in air but not in water? I have another pump I got back with a similar problem, it needs 122V to run minimum when in water, with the summer upon us the voltage is dipping due to so much demand and these pumps will not run. The normal spec is 106V. Let me know, I suspect this is the problem you are having.
 
It runs in fresh water, I did not try running it dry. It has been working fine for over a week. It still pushes a little water, but barely and 0 bubbles. Should the impeller be in 3 pieces?
 
EDIT: I reread your post. Does the pump make a chattering noise? The impeller should come out in three pieces, an oring, a black disk with track in it and the magnet with the impeller and shaft. Look for any sort of ridge in the pump and listen for a chattering noise. We are so close, you could send me the pump and I could turn it around very quickly.

Sorry for the delay, I just had my first son born last week (3 weeks early) so I have been pretty busy. Yes the pump chatters, like most pumps sound when they run dry. All of the pieces seem to be in like they are in good shape. It is funny, when I put it all back together and test it will run fine, and when I get it back in the skimmer, it just stops working. Do you want me to send it off to you?

I am having a similar problem, but I am not sure if its the same reasons behind it. Everything on my pump appears to look just fine. The skimmer will run just fine until I turn my return pump off to do maintenance. My skimmer sits in approximately 7 inches of water. If my return pump shuts down, as the water level rises, which is approximately just over and inch of water, the skimmer pump will sit and chatter and does not ever return to normal. I have to actually lift the skimmer out of the water to get it to start up again. Obviously this is a major pain in the butt but now that I know how to deal with it, I can fix it. The problem I have with it is that this just doesnt work if I am gone for a day or two and the power goes out, etc. The book says it can run in 3.9 to 11 inches of water, but I couldnt find any place where it talks about fluctuations in water level. The water will only fluctuate if the return pump is off. Is this a problem with the pump or is it a limitation of the design of the skimmer?

My pump makes the same "grinding" sound and has stopped working after only 2 weeks. I have cleaned it thoroughly, but it still will not pump water.

Can I send mine back to you for repair or replacement as well, and where should I send it?
 
Send it in but first check the bearing bush. The bearing bush is a small collar that goes around the hole the impeller assembly sits in. This piece often slides forward in shipping and this will cause the noise. If that doesn't fix it send it to me and we will replace the parts necessary to get it running properly.

Well, i think this is a common problem with the hydro foarmer pump. It's also been mentioned here and here.

Yesterday, i took the skimmer apart and pulled out the impeller. The bearing bush is the red rubber o-ring, isn't it? as in this picture

I cleaned the pump, put the bush in then the bearing and push them all the way down then insert the impeller in. Put the skimmer together and turn it on. It started immediately and i let it run for 10 mins then turn it off/on, the problem came back: the pump was rattling for 15 sec then started. I tried again and it could not start. I have to diassemble/reassemble the skimmer to get it start.

Now my question is: what parts should i send to you? Roger. The impeller with bearing or the whole pump?
 
The bearing bush is not pictured in your photo, this part has two notches it is at the front of the hole right under where the impeller is. This part is what would cause what you describe as it is the surface the brakes engage on to stop a backwards rotation (chatter) some chatter on start up is normal as the pump corrects direction, if rapidly switched on and off the brakes can lock.

It is the hollow circle piece on the left. It is at the surface of the hole, you will see two notches right under where the impeller normally spins where you can pry it out. It is covered in the manual.
