9010 water height?

I am upgrading to a 92 corner, which actually means I have to downgrade my sump because of the stands spacial inadequacies.
I have ordered my 9010 because of its compact size but have a few questions as I prepare my sump for the skimmer. I tried reading the online manual, but I seem to find conflicting information.

What is the appropriate water depth that the 9010 should sit in? On one site i noticed it said 3.9 to 11 inches in sump, but reading the instruction book the other day, I noticed it said 9.4 to 11.4 inches for in tank. The instructions did not really say anything about the depth of in sump.

Mine will be going in the sump so I assume the 3.9 to 11, but what is optimal? Also is it better to have this thing sit on the bottom of the sump or attached to the sump and off the bottom.

Thanks
Dale

The in-sump water depth range in the manual is the one to use )(3.9-11).

When configured for in-sump use with the stand pipe the skimmer performs the same anywhere within that range.

I run mine in about 8 inches of sump water. Anything lower and it does not push as well. Too much and I think it stops foaming, but I could be wrong. But around 8" I get some nasty blackish gunk that I have to clean out every 3 days. Mind you it does NOT fill the collection cup, but it works just fine, I love my 9010!

For in sump use with the in sump kit installed, the water level should be between 3.9-11" I agree with spankey though and 6-8" tends to be optimum, mainly because the US pump is stronger than the Euro model and 10.5" is really the maximum and at the minimum it takes almost no change in water level for the pump to run dry.
