9011 mounting if not using magnet

Was wondering what the thoughts are for mounting the 9011 skimmer in a sump without using a magnet. I want to place the skimmer in a centre section of the sump and have no room front or back to put an external magnet. I am not using the in sump kit and its submerged probably 3/4" below the water line on the skimmer. The base plate has a vent in the bottom. If I just sit it on some elevated egg crate I am worried about vibration.

The Extension Set (sump kit) is the best way to use the 9011 in a sump, as you get a marginal improvement in performance and it will work in a greater range of water depths. Without the sump kit, then those holes on the bottom plate do need to be unobstructed. I'd think that egg crate might be open enough to not be a problem, but as you mention it could lead to vibration noise. The best option really is to use the Extension Set. This will allow you to sit the 9011 directly on the bottom glass and the four suction cups will dampen any vibration.

It sounds though like the extension kit also wouldn't fit. I would try this-

Solid bottom plate with suction cup feet and the cap where the pipe would plug in removed. This is how the skimmers are installed in our sump kits and the only draw back is the water level must be near the marked line and some bubbles will escape the hole where the cap is removed. This way the narrow dimension you need should be possible, however, if the fit is very tight, it may impede the skimmers performance due to poor ability to access the water (if it stagnates near the skimmer).
