9011 setup assistance please

Hi I have just filled a new tank and have a 9011 in the sump. It has the sump kit on with the outlet tube and sponge. It is situated quite deep in the sump with the water about an 1" below the normal water line markings on the side of the skimmer . The markings I assume are when its DT mounted.

I understand it needs to run for some time to run-in however I assumed water would be trickling over the outlet tube onto the sponge. Looking down the outlet tube the water is probably 3/4" below the top. Is this normal for a new installation ?

While I admit I am very familiar with these it sounds like something in assembled incorrectly as yes water should be exiting the standpipe which means it is exiting thru some other opening. Can you tell looking at it where it is happening? Do you have the solid bottom plate installed or the one with the slots?

Yeah its got the slots installed. I'll take it out and have another look

Oops can some delete this stupid post, as I am embarrassed !

I re-read the instructions and still had the DT bottom plate installed with the slots. I took this out and replaced the bottom plate with the solid plate with the suction cups on and hey presto.....
