9015

Hey guys I have a 9015 skimmer and have a question. I am running the skimmer in the sump and the water level does not seem to rise high enough in the neck. I have checked to see that the bottom plate is in correctly and also the pressure plate that goes behind the exit pipe. I am getting nice dark brown skimmate in the neck but none goes over into the collection cup. I tried to extend the riser pipe with a coupling but then the skimmer gurgles. So I cut the coupling in half and still to no avail no foam goes over the neck. Now I know this tank is not so clean that there is no material to skim either, Read here it's dirty!
Any ideas, Thanks Eric

Hi Eric,

You should not need to use any coupling if its a new instillation give it a few more days, also try going back to basics with air adjustment and give it 24 hours between adjustment of the air screw.

Well it's been almost a week and this on a very dirty tank. As far as the air screw it says in the instructions to open the air all the way from the very start. So I should not have the air open all the way? Wouldn't this lower the water level in the skimmer if I decreased the air? Thanks Eric

Eric,

Allthough it mentions this in the manual with a heavy load I have found the standard procedure on first start up can work, best to open the screw 2 or 3 turns from the closed position and then wait a day or 2 after this quarter turns to produce desired skimmate.
The other issue can be additives that will inhibit the foam rising.

Graeme

Roger one of the two is working pretty good now, the other is not doing very much but it is on a cleaner tank. Thanks foe checking back. Eric
