Nice looking tank. I like your gonis. Very nice as well. Keep an eye on those clowns hosting them. That's really not good. But good job

I've asked them nicely, but they just don't want to leave....

So far they don't seem to be causing any damage, the coral has continued to grow since they moved in, but yes, I do worry about them a bit - creates one of those moral dilemmas doesn't it, as I wouldn't want to part with either of them.

cheers

I can understand how you feel. Clowns are cool little fish but I wouldn't trust one with any of my gonis. Just keep an eye out :)

We certainly don't get the variety you guys get, but we do have a few things that you just don't see in the US - the duncanopsammias, readily available acans etc.

When you look at some of the acros, zoos, rics etc, not to mention some of the prices on fish you get, we get pretty jealous. As an example, I love the Lysmata debelius and ambonensis shrimps - in the US they are what, about $10, here they are about $100 due to the difficulties of obtaining them in Australian waters.

For the most part though, the invertebrate import/export ban works in our favour, otherwise all the good stuff would go to you people where it could fetch higher prices. As an example, after Nemo came out, you could not find blue tangs for ages as they were all going to supply the demand in the US.

One thing that has improved hugely lately is we have some excellent online stores who are getting hold of all of the top line equipment from overseas. Things like Tunze streams that were a great rarity not so long ago, and are now almost standard equipment.

Cheers

Great. Yet another reason for the rest of the world to hate us greedy americans- we are taking all the best livestock :rolleye1:

Nice new addition! Your tank gives me lots of inspiration for my own setups. :)

The clowns used to be your typical bright orange colour but over the past six months or so have gone the 'dirty' looking colour you see here. It seems to occur about the time I upgraded to the VHO ballast so maybe its some melanin reaction to the increased lighting. Not really sure.

This weeks big 'event' was coming home to my mandarin with a big hole in its belly (too big for any of my fish). Still alive when I got home - went to check on it about an hour later to see if it needed to be put out of its misery to find that it was caught in the tentacles of my heliofungia, and was now dead, presumably from the sting. Had to watch over the course of the evening whilst it slowly dissapeared into the helio's mouth. By the time I went to bed only the head was sticking out - truly gross! Couldn't bring myself to take photos as it just looked too disgusting....

Gosh, just came across this thread after nearly a year.....

The main tank hasn't changed a great deal, however I did get around to setting up the daughter tank - a 2ft tank that is gravity fed off the return from the main. This way the only extra pump is the Seio for internal circulation, minimising extra heat and noise.
Lighting is a 150 W halide, currently with an XM15K, beautiful colour but I am dissapointed in these bulbs as they seem to lose intensity very quickly.

Inhabitants are a Golden Angel and a Midas Blenny, with two Blood Cleaner Shrimp and an orange starfish.

Whilst I was never a huge fan of SPS, I wanted to do something different in this tank, and I'm lucky enough to have some very generous friends in the local reefing commumity - virtually every acro in the tank was given to me. I must say that they have grown on me, and its nice to have the two very different environments next to one another. Six months on, I'm pretty happy with the result.

Here's a (not too great) pic:
