90g Update

At the risk of jinxing myself....Yay!!!! :o

For those that have followed my "plumbing for idiots" travails, I thnk I've finally got things going the right way now. All the plumbing was torn down and cemented (big DUH! for me)--hey, shocker, no leaks. Also, I made a couple of adjustments with the standpipe height and the air inlet; and I got the Niagra Falls sound down to a distant, gentle cascade and after about 6 agonizing hours of tiptoe standing and leaning, I finally got the 100lbs of base rock aquascape looking great.

On a whim I decided to do a water test for ammonia--thinking that with no bio load and dry base rock it would register 0, but it actually registered .3, so obviously after having the rocks in water for a week there has been some die-off. So without even trying, I've started the cycle.....

woo-hoo...!!!

So, thanks to all who've helped on all my various posts. And I'm 100% sure tomorrow or the next day will bring another "crisis" :D but for now I''m enjoying the glow of my clean tank, my dry plumbing, my new lights and my 15 year old Port....LOL...

You know? I should tip the glass while working on my headache. Did I say headache? I meant hobby. Does it help?

I just got done adding more rock to my 90. Just tossed it in there with a few piles of sand from the same tank. Hoping it cycles fairly quick. My neglect in the 30 is starting to show.

Tiptoeing and stretching should be good for us. But it hurts when we're done huh? I'm 6'3" and strain myself to reaching inside. That's why the rock is however it landed from as far as I could reach. I'll fix that later.

I hope adding about four gallons of old tank water helps too.

I'm going to whisper this part so I don't start a big debate.
I ditched the Durso and went with a Herbie. Then submerged my drain in the sump. Not a peep from it. Hopefully the Bean Animal people don't start in.

Also on my skimmer I added about two feet of hose to the venturi inlet. Wow . What a difference on that. And insulated my stand. That was a chore because it was already set up. I should have done that first like you should've glued first.

So all I have now is the steady drone of the pump.

Anyway. Nice to hear things are coming along. Just think. In a few more weeks, maybe something alive can be added.

Tipping the glass DOES help...just dont tip too much or you'll tip the wrong glass...pun intended :)

6'3" and you have trouble reaching...try doing it from 5'7". I refuse to buy a step-ladder because if I hear my partner start humming the oompa-loompa song, he's going to get live sand in his soup!

I'm not going to get any work done today because today is the first day that I actually left everything running in the tank and I'll be wondering if everything's ok.... Gotta cut the apron string some time I guess.

And as for a few weeks to add something alive...puh-lease..I'm stopping on my way home to pick up a few anemones, maybe a couple of tangs and a shark egg.

:) :) :)
