my friend has a 90gal long it is 6'x18"x18" and wants to trade for my 90gal tall you think that would make a good salt tank the depth is better than the tall cause the light has to penetrate less water so corals would like it better and it is longer so can have more live rock and more room for aqua scape have you ever seen a 90 long is nice anyway let me know what you think

I know I personally would go with the long tank. Most 300 gallons are 8 feet long, but mine is 10 feet long. I really like the length as opposed to height personally.

Now technically, I think it would be harder to get light all the way down in a 90 gallon tall, but people do it, so it can't be TOO hard. But I just think a 90 long will give you more options for aquascaping, and different corals.

Doesn't matter though, you can make either one look really, really nice. I have seen some really nice tall tanks and some really nice long tanks. All about how you do it, and the effort you put in.

Good luck with whatever you do!!!

I have a 110 gal tall tank and I would much rather have a long tank. It is hard to take care of the stuff in the bottom of the tank, and if something falls off of the top to the bottoml, it's a hassle.
Light penetrates to the bottom, but not as well. I keep my lower light corals down there and they do fine.

You might also want to consider whether you are going to have a sand bed. Four inches of sand in a tall and suddenly it's not so deep.

90 tall is going to be harder to light (you need more intense light to penetrate that depth properly), it also has less surface area so you get less gas exchange (oxygen)..therefore you cant keep as much livestock(fish specifically) in it..A 90 long is better for those reasons...BUT a 90 tall has more depth to aquascape ...Ive always liked the 90t for that reason You can get a large aquarium in a small footprint

cool thanks for the thoughts every one I think I'd like to see the long tank set up it may turn out really nice I could load it up with corals well thanks again for your advice
