92 gallon future seahorse tank progress

So felt like posting a couple pics of the seahorse tanks progress. It is really looking nice (I think). No seahorses yet, but man are there a lot of pods for when there are. I think late June I may finally break down and add them.

My goal is two pairs of H. reidi

The macro is growing in real nice and rooting well. I hope a another month or so everything will be ready.

Also I do plan to take all of those power heads out when I do the closed loop for the chiller. but for now they're fine.

Still tweaking the overall system. I have some rework in the filtershed, and a few other things I need to get on line. My view is it's not "what is the wait?" it's "what's the hurry?" It will be here a long time. Rapid finally released their dimmable fixtures I just got them on the 280 today lol I would like to have that tank up to snuff as well.

I've had dimmable LED's running on my reef for over a year now, they are a great thing IME. Hope you like your new fixture.

As far as what is the hurry, you will understand about a day or so after your seahorses hit the water. Been doing this for 12 years + now, still the most amazing things I have ever scene, including my reef system which is also fairly awesome to me (I am not tank of the month, but I love the life that is there and appreciate it, not braggin by any means).

I went seahorses first then reefing, seahorses are tougher then most give them credit for. I made all of my noob mistakes, and I am a slow learner for sure, on seahorses and still kept the same guy with me for 8 years.

I do understand getting it all perfect, but don't wait until it is to perfect ;), you might never get them.

Beautiful tank.. I have wanted to give seahorses a try.. but they are so temperamental... Good luck and look forward to the pictures...

So I was going to get 4 H Reidi (could someone give me a pronunciation of that? is it "Reed eye"?) but Seahorse Source will not have them for a few months. I really like the way Abbie and Dan communicate, so they are my preferred vendor for these animals.

They do have hybrids H Reidi/H Erectus that I may get instead.

Here is the photo they sent me of them. Anyone have any experience with these guys? (the seahorses not the store) They look awesome to me.

I have two of the hybrids from them and they are very healthy and tough like their erectus cousins. I keep mine together with the erectus, so far with no problems.

I wish RC had a +1 system so I could +1 this comment. Thank you!!

I am going to order them soon. I would love to see a picture of them in your system if you have time to post one.

So I pulled the trigger on 3 pairs of the hybrids. Arranged for delivery next Friday as Abbie suggested that I pick up at the FedEx station and save the extra abuse on the animals by bouncing around in a delivery truck. I agreed.

Really looking forward to having seahorses in the "seahorse" tank :) it can finally live up to its name.

I just posted a bunch of pics on photobucket of my reidi/erectus hybrids the day that I received them in the mail. Sorry about the blurry/dark pics, my tank was messy and I had just added probiotics to the water and my night lights were on.

The hybrids are the light colored ones with the black "freckles". They have turned dark brown/pink with white bands now and the male changes a lot. You can see the male after he became dark in the crappy video I posted. I'll try to take some pics later.
