IF anyone is as crazy as I am.....

I found 4 - 950g poly tanks that were used for salt water in texas. They are 5x7 made out of plastic with 2" outlets. I'm going to see , try , hope, pray....and make them into a cistern.

My 2 reason are

1- adds 950g to your system

2- I'm going to bury it on my side yard, I belive that it will keep my water a lot cooler circulating that water through my tank.

Any idea's or anyone want one of them with shipping try to get them for 2-300 hundred.

Joe

I have heard of people doing that and it works, the only thing I would be concern about would be that the tank cracks because of the pressure or rocks arround it, I am sure there must be a safe way to do this.

Hi you might want to dig a test hole first for a couple of reasons. One,to see if you hit coral cap rock, which depending on how thick it is,can be a real pain to dig through.Secondly,if you plan to go down 5',you'll need to check where the water table is,as it could cause the tank to literally float in the rainy season & crack your plumbing. If your out east in the Hollywood area, your road elevation may only be at 5 or 6' above sea level, which could mean you'll hit the water table at the depth your seeking. If you have a survey of your property, check the elevations on it & it may give you some info.HTH & good luck

If you dig the whole and you get what you want. You can put a layer of fine sand below the tank and as you fill it you can put sand around the sides to keep the rocks away. I think Herman has done this to one of his systems.

Hey Darcy,
How are you doing? Hope everything is coming back ok.

here is a picture of the smaller 250g one they didnt have a pictue of the 950 but from the same company and type

Hey Matt, yea the tank is really bouncing back.I was basically a week away from tearing it down.I think I'll stay away from SPS for a few hurricane seasons though.Hopefully I can pay you a visit in the future.Regards ,Darcy.
Sorry for taking up thread space

NYVP,if your west of 95 then your elevation should be better. If you do have a survey of your property, even a basic one, then use the finished floor elevation of the house & subtract 1.5 to 2 foot as a rough guide to your yard elevation.Even easier,if your neighbour has a swimming pool (& providing it isn't built on concrete pillings-which I doubt ,being that far west)-then you should have no issue with the water table.HTH & good luck

that far west .. you make it sound like i'm in the everglades : )

It just sounded like a cool and inexpensive way to help out the tank

LOL,yea that probably wasn't the correct wording.Do any of your neighbours have a pool?If so I think you'll be fine.Make sure you keep it away from your property line, incase you have any utility easements & call the utility department,so they can come out & mark any underground utilities for you.It is free & could save you some headaches trying to figure out where sewer lines etc are.If it's going at the rear of your property, then you should have less pipe work to worry about.HTH

ya neighbors on both sides as well as myself have pools. I do have a sewer line on the side made of pvc that I will have to watch when I put it in. the electric and cable easements are on the back of my property so no headache there.
The tanks is pressure rated and has straps so no worries about it breaking
